Bullets kick off title defense with 1-1 draw against Dedza Dynamos

TNM Super League defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets began their title defense with a 1-all draw against Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Substitute Ephraim Kondowe scored the first goal for the  People’s team this season but Promise Kamwendo equalised in the second half.

Kondowe scored from a rebound after Dynamos’ goalkeeper Donnex Mwakasinga saved Patrick Mwaungulu’s shot in the 37th minute but Kamwendo cancelled the lead in the 65th minutes to deny Bullets the maximum points.



After the match Dedza Dynamos goalkeeper Donex Mwakasinga was voted man of the match.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets finished the 2023 season as quadruple winners after winning the league and three cups and will look to replicate their good form through 2024.

In other Super League matches played on Saturday, Silver Strikers led by their new coach Peter Mponda claimed a convincing 2-0 win against Chitipa United at Silver Stadium.

Adiel Kaduya and Binwell Katinji scored for the central bankers to collect maximum points in their first match of the 2024 season.

In Mzuzu, Moyale Barracks came from behind to beat their fellow soldiers Mafco FC 2-1 at Mzuzu Stadium.

Benard Chimaimba broke the deadlock in the 36th minute but Mafco equalised towards the end of the match through Charles Nkhoma and Raphael Phiri.

Elsewhere, Rookies FOMO FC started their Super league campaign with a 1-nil victory against Bangwe All Stars at Mulanje Park Stadium.

Hassan Luwembe scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute with a beautiful header beating Bangwe goalkeeper Elias Missi.

On Sunday, Mighty Wanderers will host Kamuzu Barracks at  Kamuzu Stadium as    Super League debutants Creck Sporting play Mighty Tigers at Nankhaka Stadium.

In Mzuzu, Mzuzu City Hammers will host Civil Service United at Mzuzu Stadium as Baka City hosts Karonga United in a much anticipated Karonga derby at Karonga Stadium.

Zambian musician Yo Maps in Malawi to perform at Clash of Titans Episode 3 (Malawi Na Zambia)

Zambian trending star Yo Maps real name Elton Mulenga is in the country ready to perform at the Clash of Titans Episode 3 (Malawi Na Zambia) which will take place tonight at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) Auditorium in the capital Lilongwe.

The ‘Aweah’ hit maker landed at Kamuzu International Airport(KIA) in the afternoon.

Speaking on his arrival, Yo Maps said he is excited to be in Malawi to perform and have fun with his followers.

He said”I am very excited that I am here again, this is my second home.  I will be performing together with my brother Tay Grin.

“Make sure you come through and experience the best performance by your favorite artist. It’s gonna be a big and massive concert and I promise you won’t regret tonight.”

Apart from Tay Grin, the Zambian star will also clash with other Malawian prominent artists such as Onesimus, Lulu, Emmmie Debbo and  DJ Mighty Virus,to mention some.

Yo Maps was born on November 29, 1994.

He started getting interested in music back in 2008 when he was still in high school at Chibombo in the neighboring nation.

In 2016, he made his first song called ‘Njikata Kuboko’, but what really made him famous was a song he released in 2018 called ‘Finally,’ where he collaborated with another artist named Macky 2.

Government ready to provide land to local and foreign Investors

Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba, has stated that government will continue its efforts to provide land to both local and foreign investors through the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC).

Gumba made these remarks today during a sensitisation meeting for Blantyre City Council Councilors and management on the amended land laws, which was held at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

He disclosed that his ministry has already identified land for investment in the cities of Lilongwe, Mzuzu, and Blantyre. Additionally, commercial lands have been identified for commercial farming, which will soon be allocated to MITC for potential investors.

He emphasised that land allocation for all investments will be done following applicable laws to avoid selling and granting land to non-Malawian citizens with no investment ambitions.

Gumba has appealed to Blantyre City Council to be responsible for ensuring that land for various developments is available and the issuance of various development permissions is not delayed at all costs.

Universities cautioned against uncredited programmes

Universities in the country have been cautioned against offering programmes that are not accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to ensure people in Malawi are being offered high quality higher education.

Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima warned the universities when she presided over the 9th Daeyang University graduation ceremony.

Wirima said that through NCHE, her ministry is jealously guarding the education standards in the country to make sure Malawians are not subjected to substandard education.

“We always need to remember that we are in a globally competitive world in which we should strive to make sure that our education meets international standards so that our graduates are recognised globally,” she said.

The Minister further asked the new graduates to use their education and training not only for their own advancement, but also for the development of the country.

Daeyang University Council Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Davidson Chifungo, assured Malawians that the university will offer only those programmes accredited by NCHE to continue producing globally competitive workforce that is well skilled and trained.

One Hundred and Thirty boys and girls graduated with degrees of Bachelor of Science and Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery at a ceremony held under the theme, “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone long time ago planted a seed – Thinking about the future of Malawi.”

Africa Israel Partnership Awards Chakwera

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has been awarded a plaque and a certificate in recognition of Malawi’s support for the people of Israel, by the Africa Israel Partnership (AIP), a United Kingdom registered organisation.

Receiving the award on behalf of President Chakwera, the Malawi UK High Commissioner, Dr. Thomas Bisika, expressed gratitude for the goodwill gesture that AIP has extended through the awards, saying he will personally present the award to the President.
Bisika also commended AIP for acting as a bridge in facilitating the flow of investment and knowledge transfer between Africa and Israel.

AIP Chairman, Russell Conn, said that the award has been presented in appreciation of the President and people of Malawi for their support during the difficult period Israel is passing through.

Responding to the development, Presidential Press Secretary, Anthony Kasunda said President Chakwera is grateful for the accolade and avails himself of the recognition, to reiterate his call for the immediate cessation of violence by all parties in Gaza, the immediate creation of safe corridors for aid workers and the immediate release of all hostages to pave way for peace talks towards a two-state solution that results in a secure Israel and a free Palestine

During the award presentation, Conn was accompanied by Dr. Charles Leyman Kachitsa, who is the Vice Chairman, Dr. Oboh Achioyamen, the Executive Secretary, and Ivan Lewis, who is the Advisor and also a former UK member of Parliament and State Minister.

Africa Israel Partnership is a non-political organisation recognised by the United Nations, and its main focus is on the development of local communities from the two regions under its networks through partner institutions.
