Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lilongwe North and Minister of Defence, Monica Chayang’anamuno, has invited Form Four students from Nsalu Secondary School on a parliamentary tour.

Chayang’anamuno emphasized the importance of encouraging students, particularly those studying governance-related subjects, to witness parliamentary proceedings firsthand.

She stated that experiencing the workings of Parliament in person would help students understand governance better and inspire them in their academic pursuits.

“We thought it wise, together with the school management, to bring them here so they can see for themselves how Parliament functions,” she said.

“They often hear about the Speaker, ministers, and Members of Parliament, but now they have had the chance to see them face to face, which serves as motivation.”

The lawmaker further explained that the invited students were selected based on their academic excellence as a way of recognizing their hard work and inspiring them to continue performing well.

She assured that as long as opportunities arise, more students from different schools would be given the chance to visit Parliament.

Nsalu Secondary School social studies teacher, Micheal Nkhata, described the tour as crucial, highlighting that social studies cover topics such as the arms of government and the role of Parliament.

Nkhata stressed that the visit was a life-changing experience for students, as it allowed them to observe parliamentary debates and better understand how laws are made and policies are discussed.

One of the students, Febbie Mwanguku, described the tour as an amazing experience, stating that it gave them insight into how legislators debate issues concerning development and political governance.

Chayang’anamuno reaffirmed her commitment to supporting and motivating students in her constituency, ensuring they have opportunities to broaden their knowledge and excel in their education.
