Jumah laments over Malawi sinking into K15.1 trillion debt

President and Commander in Chief of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah, has expressed his grave concern over Malawi sinking into K15.1 trillion extravagance borrowing and over-expenditure for consumption by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his MCP government.

Jumah said the MCP government cannot stand up to show Malawians what it has done with K15.1 trillion borrowed in 4 years chaining Malawians and the future generations to come claiming that most of this money entered into the pockets of senior MCP politicians for big mansions in cities and towns.

He said Muvi wa Chilungamo made a prophecy that by the time the MCP will leave office, the national debts will reach over K18 trillion saying Muvi wa Chilungamo prophecy has come to pass, K15.1 trillion debt making the MCP the most extravagance and overspending government Malawians have ever witnessed since 1994.

Speaking through a Revolutionary voice in various social media platforms, Jumah said former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and DPP left K3.16 trillion debt claiming that out of this figure, there’s Bingu National Sports Stadium, BICC, MUST and the state-of-the-art hospital in Nkhatabay.

Jumah has expressed fears that the country’s economists are just watching this extravagance and overspending by President Chakwera and his MCP government joining hands of handclappers that “Boma ndilomweli silikuchoka” this government will continue bringing untold sufferings to Malawians.

He has asked Malawians to open their eyes that President Chakwera and his MCP are doing everything possible to remain in power warning Malawians that if indeed Chakwera will bounce back in 2025, it will be a disaster for Malawi as a country and the generations to come.

The MRP President said as of 4th September, 2024 Malawi has a debt of K15.1 trillion and what would happen if Chakwera and his MCP are given another 5 years to run to 2030 saying this is speaking to itself that there will be no Malawi.

“President Chakwera is on a global trotting mission borrowing for consumptions and not for the good of the country and citizens,” said Jumah.

He has called upon the House of Parliament to change the law that is allowing national IDs to be used during 2025 elections assuring government that Malawians are rejecting the decision and will do everything possible that elections must not be held in 2025 if government insists on this.

Jumah has warned the MCP government that the coming elections in 2025 are not for MCP vs DPP, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera vs Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, it will be citizens taking back their country from greedy politicians of the MCP, mafias, crooks and thieves.

He has advised President Chakwera to listen to the will of the majority Malawians so that the 2025 elections be conducted without national Identity Cards and if government wants to maintain these IDs as part of rigging scheme, in 2025 there will be no elections and no government.

Kawjo Foundation transforms lives of vulnerable people in Dowa

Kawjo Foundation says it has a mission of eradicating poverty and transform the lives of the vulnerable society with a vision to have an inclusive and economically empowered society where young people and women are skilled, productive and self-reliant.

The Foundation works in three impact areas of food security and sustainable livelihoods, education and skills development, disaster and humanitarian services.
The organization recently secured funding from GIZ to implement a project on sustainable Aquatic foods (SAF), Zione Makawa Chawalika, Kawjo’s Executive Director, said the SAF project in Dowa district is targeting producers working in pond farming, fish fingerlings producers, fish processors and the local population in all EPAs of the district such as Nachisaka, Madisi, Nalunga, Mndolera, Mponela and Chibvala.

Chawalika said the project has an objective of utilizing the potential of sustainable aquatic foods to transform agricultural and food systems in Malawi and its main implementation partner is the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change.

She said the interventions in the Central Region including in Dowa will be taking on board 2,850 old fish farmers and for the initial one year of the project implementation about 300 fish farmers will come from Dowa district.

The Director said the activities of the project in the central Region will include; fish farmer and potential fingerling producer’s identification, farms verification and registration, technical training on Climate Smart aquaculture, training needs assessment and refresher technical trainings on fish farming and hatchery operation.

“The project will also be conducting coaching and follow-up loops for all the trained fish farmers for the period of implementation,” said Chawalika.

       
She said key outputs of the project include; the production of aquatic foods from sustainable aquatic has increased, the integration of small-scale producers into the formal aquaculture sector has been strengthened and relevant political actors set new standards for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.


Sustainable Aquatic Foods (SAF) will be implemented by both Malawi Government and German Cooperation (GIZ) from 2024 to 2028 with a total budget of 3,488,000 Euros and Dowa will get an initial budget of MK20 million.

Cyclone finds God, changes name to Levi

Hip Hop artist Cyclone has changed his name to the moniker Levi following his new found faith in God.

Levi, a former member of the Lilongwe based Hip Hop outfit Pittie Boyz with other rappers like L.i, Gwamba, and EmmQ has also changed from secular music to Gospel Hip Hop.

“I changed my name because I’m a new creation now. There’s nothing wrong with Cyclone as a name, but that represents the old me. Levi is my real name, and being called by it feels great.”

He explained that after years of searching for true purpose he wants to preach the word of God through music.

“I’m in God’s hands now, and I believe I’ll do my best to spread His message until it reaches the right people,” he said.

Currently, Levi has a 10 track albuk titled ‘Purpose’

The title track ‘Purpose’ highlights the challenges one faces after accepting Christ, encouraging persists in the spiritual journey.

His latest release ‘Glory’ is a reggae track that glorifies the power of Jesus Christ.

Malawi’s human rights commission to hold public hearing on sexual violence

The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) says it is yet to set dates for the commencement of a public hearing on allegations of sexual harassment and abuse at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA), and child sexual abuse at Chambo Girls Academy.

Meanwhile,women’s rights activist Maggie Kathewera Banda says she expect the authorities to take decisive action against the perpetrators of sexual violence.

The MHRC was established under Section 129 of Malawi’s Constitution, with the primary function of protecting and investigating violations of the rights accorded by the Constitution or any other law.

NAP raises red flag over Malawi’s soaring public debt

The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has expressed grave concern over the alarming surge in Malawi’s public debt, which has skyrocketed by K2.54 trillion in the first six months of 2024 alone, bringing the total to a staggering K15.1 trillion.

This represents a fourfold increase since the beginning of the Tonse government’s tenure, when the debt stood at K4.1 trillion.

NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe has since called for immediate and decisive action to address the debt crisis, including conducting a comprehensive audit of debt contraction, evaluating debt volume, and enhancing parliamentary scrutiny of loan bills.

However, Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda has downplayed the concerns, suggesting that some individuals are misrepresenting the debt value and taking advantage of partial understanding to score political points.

He explains that the government borrows in foreign currency (FX) and uses the funds mostly in kwacha, the local currency.
