Johnny Banda keeps father’s legacy alive with Zembani Band shows

As part of keeping Lucius Banda’s music alive, his son, Johnny, has launched a series of shows with Zembani Band.

In an interview, Johnny said the shows will feature a mix of his father’s iconic songs and his own original music.

He said the first performances will take place this weekend in Mangochi and Salima, marking the end of a 40-day mourning period.

Johnny assured that the group’s performance will be impressive, as they were nurtured by the late Banda.

“We are prepared to continue the mission. We’ve been touring before his passing, and he trained us to keep moving forward,” he said.

He further explained:”My father’s legacy is one of trust and positive energy, and I am determined to carry that forward.

“I will dedicate myself to exceeding expectations and continuing the work he started.”

As the first-born son of Banda, Johnny also revealed plans to continue signing new talent to Zembani Band, with revised contract terms that align with his vision.

He also expressed gratitude to the current Zembani members for their unwavering support, noting that they had not considered leaving the band even after his father’s passing.

Piksy back with a new song “Lemba”

One of Malawi’s multi-award winning musicians, Evans Zangazanga popularly known by his stage name ‘Piksy’, is back with a brand new song titled “Lemba”.

The new song encourages people to consider reading the Bible or the Qur’an for moral guidance when they go astray.

The song has been produced by Macia while the video has been shot by VJ Ken.

Piksy came in the limelight in 2008 alongside Nthumwi Nicodemus when the duo (Atumwi) released popular songs like Pamtima, Pamudzi, Zatheka, Moseliwa, Chipwirikiti and Mzanga.

He released his solo debut album ‘Maso’ in 2012 which had popular songs like Uncle Short One, Unamata, Appetiser, Ponya Mwendo and the title track ‘Maso’.

DPP Convention Endorses Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as 2025 Presidential Candidate

At the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) convention held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre, Dr. George Chaponda, the Chairperson of the convention, has officially announced the unanimous endorsement of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2025 elections.

In a significant moment for the DPP, Dr. Chaponda declared that Professor Mutharika, who has previously served as Malawi’s President, has been overwhelmingly supported by party delegates to lead the party in the upcoming presidential race. This endorsement reaffirms Mutharika’s prominent role within the party and his continued influence in Malawian politics.

Sand music festival cancelled after Lucius Banda’s death

Organizers of the 2024 Sand Music Festival, Impakt Events Management, have announced the cancellation of the event, which was scheduled to take place from September 27 to 29 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi District.

The decision comes after the sudden passing of Impakt Events Management’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Sand Music Festival Chairman, Lucius Banda, affectionately known as ‘Soldier’.

In a heartfelt statement, the company expressed their grief and explained that Banda’s absence has left an insurmountable void.

“His passing has left us heartbroken, and his absence will be deeply felt. Lucius was more than just a leader; he was the driving force behind the Sand Music Festival.His passion, dedication, and commitment to excellence have been the foundation of this festival’s success,” reads part of the statement.

Meanwhile,the organizers have expressed their hope to return next year, stronger and more inspired, to honor late Banda’s legacy in a way that would make him proud.

Miss Malawi condemns DPP  for threatening Journalists

MISA Malawi has condemned the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for threatening Nation Publications Limited (NPL) journalists at the just ended convention.



According to a statement signed by chairperson Golden Matonga, in the wee hours of Monday, August 19, 2024, some people operating under the banner ‘DPP media team’ threatened and ‘forced’ NPL team to delete a Facebook news update on what was happening at the convention.

The NPL team had to seek special protection from some party officials to safely move themselves and their livestreaming gadgets out of the convention hall.
