Madame Chakwera launches a book titled a woman of noble character

By Cedric Nkungula

First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera on Friday 1st December 2023 launched a book titled a woman of noble character at a glamorous event held at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe.

Authored by Reverend Rebecca Banda, the book has been written based on Proverbs 31.

In her remarks, Madame Chakwera said the book comes in timely as a yardstick to guide women to ask themselves questions about the specific qualities that they need to continuously seek after, polish and emulate for the future generations that they desire.

“This book challenges us to remember that our characters are an open book to the younger generations. Whatever they become is our seed. This book also reveals to us of how the church is tasked with raising a generation of women that are reliable and beacons of hope for the younger generations,” she emphasized.

The first lady observed that it is pleasing to note that at the centre of the book is a message that is challenging women to discover their purpose in their respective societies, rise up to the occasion and embrace their potential as they trail blaze for the next generation.

“It’s a call to development of transcendent qualities that God requires for us women if we are to ably compliment leadership of our nation and indeed lead with impact in various positions of high authority in our societies,” she said.

Madame Chakwera said it is important that elderly women teach their children the characteristics of slothfulness and explain the difference between prosperous versus failing nations.

“It all starts with the nucleus family and the significant aspect of the diligent character of a mother,” added the first lady.

“This woman in Proverbs 31 demonstrates that women are capable, physically able, business smart, home makers and directly linked to the success of their husband and children. I, therefore, have every belief that women, regardless of the scale of their institutional influence, can be counted as critical stakeholders towards the Malawi 2063 goal of achieving an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant industrialized upper middle-income country through collective efforts.”

Taking her turn, Reverend Rebecca Banda said that the book is a tool for empowering and motivating underprivileged women and children to realize their full potential in society.

She thanked Madame Chakwera for availing herself to the book launch despite her tight schedule.

According to Pastor Banda, part of the proceeds from the book sales will go towards rehabilitation of the Chitipi Haven of Hope Lay Training Centre that is being run by the National Women Ministries of the Malawi Assemblies of God with the primary objective of developing entrepreneurial skills of vulnerable widows so that they become active contributors to the economic growth of their families and respective communities.

Ben Longwe says PAC now a Presidential Affairs Committee

A human rights activist based in South Africa Charles Ben Longwe, says the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has failed miserably to stand with Malawians hence no need to have the body to represent the wishes of Malawians that are in pain and suffering due to various challenges the country is sailing through.

He says PAC Executive members have been meeting President Lazarus Chakwera saying their discussions were centred on personal benefits as reported previously that they have been walking out of the State House pocketing khaki envelops.

He said the recent PAC meeting with President Chakwera has been proved to be a useless one as it had no blessings from the people observing that during their consultative meeting, PAC members were advised not to go to the state House until they assure Malawians that they will carry Malawians’ petition to deliver to President Chakwera that enough is enough, he must step down, a thing which did not happen.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Longwe says Malawians have no trust in the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) and as such, they are mobilizing themselves to close PAC offices located at the City Centre in Lilongwe.

He says the recent Public Affairs Committee is Presidential Affairs Committee saying just as other public institutions; Malawi Defense Force (MDF), Malawi Police Service (MPS), Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB), are being controlled by President Chakwera.

He says in view of this, it is the wish of the suffering Malawians to see to it that the present PAC be relocated to State House as their new office and the office they are currently occupying at the City Centre, Malawians will decide who to employ and should not be men of God.

The activist says the journey to close PAC offices will not be announced, it will be made secret, the protesters will also pay a surprise visit to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) offices to be told of the reasons why elections will be held in September, 2025 not 21st May, 2024.

“We will have a special day, Malawians from Blantyre, Zomba, Mangochi, Mzuzu, Karonga will witness the closure of PAC offices and convincing reasons from Mec on the date of the elections in Malawi,” says Longwe.

He says PAC went to the State House to meet President Chakwera for him to change things in Malawi which is contrary to the views of the citizens that President Chakwera has failed and this is the time to honour his promise, to resign.

Longwe has however, expressed hope that Malawians who are in pain and suffering will not leave Malawi First of Redson Munlo and Ben Longwe alone but to support it until all the planned objectives to liberate the country from the shackles of the MCP dictatorship, are achieved.

MCP diehard member Kamphangala wants Malawi to return to Independent Electoral Commission

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard member from Mvera area in Dowa Rodgers Kamphangala says there is need for Malawi to return to the 1994 Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for fair and transparent elections in 2025.

Kamphangala is of view that the current Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is not ready and competent enough to preside over the 2025 elections after it failed to resolve irregularities for the Local Government Elections in Zomba and Mangochi and Parliamentary Elections in Dedza.

He observes that registration of minors to vote for candidates and handouts have been the order of the day beside having the law that says anyone found doing so is against the law.

Voting in Malawi

Kamphangala gives an example of Dedza Central Constituency By-elections where an independent candidate Jacob Kaumphawi filed complaints against his competitor Willard Gwengwe who was campaigning before and during the official polling day saying all these reported irregularities were thrown under the carpet.

The MCP diehard says in all of these irregularities having undergone unresolved with MEC allowing the elections to take place, Malawians are watching this past their eyes and in 2025 will not tolerate nothing but to stand up against the new government elected.

Kamphangala says the MCP led-government is doing everything possible for it to bounce back into government but Malawians are not ready to vote for it assuring President Chakwera that he will find hard times to campaign even in Chewa dominated districts believed to be the bedroom of the MCP.

He says to make matters worse, Affordable Input Programme (AIP) has gone the opposite to the expectations of the people in the central region of Malawi that takes farming as a business expressing fears that one or three people in a village benefiting from AIP is not something to celebrate.

The MCP diehard says many people particularly the Chewa, had high expectations that the coming in of President Chakwera to lead the country from destruction by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will correct all the wrongs as done by the DPP in government.

He says the MCP has copied and pasted what the DPP was doing in government claiming that there is rampant corruption, borrowing money for consumptions, and useless international travels by the President and Ministers which have not benefited the country and its citizens.

Kamphangala has since challenged President Chakwera to take his time off vising the rural communities in Dowa district without notice and pomp, claiming that he will be told nothing but the truth that no one has in mind his name for voting in 2025.

“The people of Dowa voted for Chakwera with drums full of votes but today, Chakwera has lost popularity among his tribesmen and women one case in point is AIP implementation,” he says.

He has also advised President Chakwera that there is still time for him to win the trust of the people by firing cabinet Ministers and advisors who have made him to be a failure and apologizing to Malawians that some people surrounding him have made him to be a failure.

Kamphangala says it is not easy for a politician to accept his own mistakes but blaming others, saying Malawians know that Chakwera is not a failure but the people surrounding him are the ones making him a failure and will accept his apology.

Total Chaos as DPP infighting deepens

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) divisions have now deepens. Earlier today, DPP Secretary General Gelzelder wa Gefrey announced that the party will hold its elective convention on 6 December, 2023.

“Refer to the matter and to my letter dated the 23rd day of October, 2023 to which I do not seem to have received any response to date. Your Excellency, the ruling of the Court dated the 29th day of September, 2023 ordered and directed us to conduct duly constituted meetings of the National Governing Council and an elective National Political Conference, popularly referred to as ‘the Convention’, within a
period of ninety (90) days from the date of the said ruling. Your Excellency, two months have since elapsed without us taking any steps,” said wa Jeffrey.

Soon after the Press conference, DPP spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba released another statement in which she quashed the SG statement saying she held the presser without the sanction of President Arther Peter Mutharika. Namalomba said what the SG has done is tantamount to sabotaging the party.

“The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wishes to inform its members and the general public that the Party is taking all necessary steps to conduct its National Political Conference in accordance with the DPP Constitution,” reads his statement in part.

Namalomba says Jeffrey press briefing at Golden Peacock was merely intended to cause panic and confusion in the Party.

Malawians have since appealed to President Peter Mutharika to resign as party President saying he has failed to unite the party.
