Total Chaos as DPP infighting deepens

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) divisions have now deepens. Earlier today, DPP Secretary General Gelzelder wa Gefrey announced that the party will hold its elective convention on 6 December, 2023.

“Refer to the matter and to my letter dated the 23rd day of October, 2023 to which I do not seem to have received any response to date. Your Excellency, the ruling of the Court dated the 29th day of September, 2023 ordered and directed us to conduct duly constituted meetings of the National Governing Council and an elective National Political Conference, popularly referred to as ‘the Convention’, within a
period of ninety (90) days from the date of the said ruling. Your Excellency, two months have since elapsed without us taking any steps,” said wa Jeffrey.

Soon after the Press conference, DPP spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba released another statement in which she quashed the SG statement saying she held the presser without the sanction of President Arther Peter Mutharika. Namalomba said what the SG has done is tantamount to sabotaging the party.

“The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wishes to inform its members and the general public that the Party is taking all necessary steps to conduct its National Political Conference in accordance with the DPP Constitution,” reads his statement in part.

Namalomba says Jeffrey press briefing at Golden Peacock was merely intended to cause panic and confusion in the Party.

Malawians have since appealed to President Peter Mutharika to resign as party President saying he has failed to unite the party.
