By Twink Jones Gadama

In a bid to empower Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) graduates in Malawi, FDH Bank Plc has signed a memorandum of understanding with TEVETA Authority to provide start-up loans to skilled youth.

The Deputy Managing Director of FDH Bank Plc, George Chitera, announced that the loans will not require collateral and will have a considerate interest rate to promote entrepreneurship among TEVET graduates. This initiative aims to support the graduates in starting their own businesses and ultimately contribute to reducing the unemployment rate in the country.

Chitera emphasized the importance of loan repayment to ensure the sustainability of the scheme, allowing more TEVET graduates to benefit from the support. He encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the loans effectively and grow their businesses to create job opportunities for others in the community.

TEVETA Executive Director, Elwin Chiwembu Sichilola, highlighted the significance of this loan scheme, which will replace the provision of start-up kits that TEVETA used to offer to graduates in the past. With the increasing enrollment in TEVET programs, the Authority discontinued providing start-up kits, making this partnership with FDH Bank a crucial step in supporting the graduates in establishing their businesses.

Richard Chirwa, the Director of Technical and Vocational Training in the Ministry of Labour, expressed the ministry’s support for this initiative as a way to address the unemployment challenges in the country. By providing financial support to TEVET graduates, the government aims to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance among the skilled youth population.

The partnership between FDH Bank and TEVETA is a significant step towards empowering TEVET graduates to become successful entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic growth of Malawi. By providing access to start-up loans without requiring collateral, the scheme offers a valuable opportunity for skilled youth to turn their vocational training into sustainable businesses.

As more TEVET graduates benefit from the support provided by FDH Bank, the hope is that they will not only succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors but also create employment opportunities for others in their communities. This collaborative effort between the bank and TEVETA demonstrates a commitment to investing in the potential of skilled youth and driving economic development in Malawi.

In a world filled with distractions and uncertainties, the Catholic Church in Dedza Diocese is working diligently to ensure that the youth remain rooted in their faith. The Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Father Humphrey Chafukira, recently emphasized the importance of young Catholics holding on to their beliefs and passing them on to future generations.

Father Chafukira’s message was delivered during a welcoming ceremony for 30 new members of Young Christian Workers (YCW) at Dedza Cathedral. He urged the youth to stand firm in their Catholic faith and to actively engage in practices that strengthen their spiritual connection.

The priest highlighted the need for guidance and formation for young people in the church, noting that many are more focused on social activities rather than spiritual growth. He encouraged the youth to prioritize their faith and to seek a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings.

In a society where the pressures of modern life can influence young people’s beliefs and values, Father Chafukira’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving one’s faith. As the youth face various challenges and temptations, he emphasized the role of the Catholic Church in providing support and guidance.

The YCW, a group dedicated to promoting social and spiritual development among young Catholics, serves as a platform for engaging with like-minded individuals and building a strong community of faith. Through initiatives and activities organized by the YCW, young people have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and to foster a sense of belonging within the church.

Father Chafukira’s call for the youth to embrace their Catholic faith resonates with the larger mission of the church in Dedza Diocese. As young Catholics navigate the complexities of the modern world, it is essential for them to have a strong foundation in their beliefs and values. By encouraging the youth to prioritize their faith and to cultivate a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings, the church aims to empower a new generation of leaders who are firmly rooted in their spiritual convictions.

The welcoming ceremony for the new members of the YCW serves as a testament to the church’s commitment to fostering a vibrant community of young Catholics. Through their involvement in the YCW, these individuals have the opportunity to connect with their peers, engage in meaningful discussions about their faith, and participate in activities that promote spiritual growth.

As Father Chafukira challenges the youth to hold on to their Catholic faith, he underscores the importance of passing on this rich tradition to future generations. By investing in the spiritual development of young people today, the Catholic Church in Dedza Diocese is sowing the seeds for a vibrant and thriving community of believers in the years to come.

In a rapidly changing world, the message of standing firm in one’s faith is more relevant than ever. As the youth of Dedza Diocese continue on their spiritual journey, they are encouraged to embrace their Catholic beliefs and to be steadfast in their commitment to living out their faith in all aspects of their lives.

The Rivalry Among Malawi’s Top Football Clubs: A Closer Look at Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, and Wanderers

By Twink Jones Gadama

In the world of Malawian football, there are a few clubs that stand out among the rest – Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, and Wanderers. These three teams have a long history of success, with Nyasa Big Bullets leading the pack with an impressive 18 league titles. As the 2024 football season approaches, the competition between these clubs is heating up, with each team vying for supremacy on the pitch.

Nyasa Big Bullets, often nicknamed the ‘People’s Team’, have been dominating the Malawian football scene for years. With a strong foundation and a dedicated fan base, the team has consistently performed well in the league. However, their rivals, Silver Strikers and Wanderers, are not far behind. Silver Strikers, with 8 league titles to their name, and Wanderers, with 6 titles, are always looking to dethrone Nyasa Big Bullets and claim the top spot for themselves.

Bullets Nomads in action

One of the key factors that sets these teams apart is their approach to the game. While Nyasa Big Bullets focus on playing their best and securing wins, Silver Strikers and Wanderers often find themselves preoccupied with trying to outperform their rival. This obsession with Nyasa Big Bullets can sometimes be detrimental, as it takes away their focus from the other teams in the league. As a result, they may end up dropping points in games that they should be winning.

The newly appointed coach of Silver Strikers, for example, has made it his mission to end Nyasa Big Bullets’ dominance. While this may seem like a noble goal, it puts undue pressure on the coach and the team. It is important for these clubs to focus on winning trophies for themselves, rather than trying to outdo their rivals. By taking a more strategic approach and concentrating on their own performance, they can increase their chances of success in the league.

Another issue that has plagued the rivalry between these teams is the accusations of biased refereeing. Both Silver Strikers and Wanderers have at times alleged that Nyasa Big Bullets receive favorable treatment from referees, giving them an unfair advantage on the pitch. While there may be instances of poor officiating, it is important to remember that the outcome of a game cannot be solely attributed to the actions of the referee. Teams must take responsibility for their own performance and seek to improve their game.

In recent seasons, Wanderers have been the favorites to win the league title, only to fall short and finish in 3rd place. This can be attributed to a lack of effective management and a failure to capitalize on their talented squad. By making changes at the managerial level and giving their coach the support they need, Wanderers can improve their chances of success in the upcoming season.

As Nyasa Big Bullets continue to showcase their dominance on the pitch, it is essential for Silver Strikers and Wanderers to reassess their strategies and focus on their own strengths. By building a solid foundation, investing in their players, and maintaining a positive team culture, these clubs can challenge Nyasa Big Bullets for the top spot in Malawian football.

In conclusion, the rivalry between Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, and Wanderers adds an exciting dimension to the Malawian football scene. As the 2024 season kicks off, fans can expect to see thrilling matches and intense competition between these top clubs. With a renewed focus on their own performance and a commitment to excellence, Silver Strikers and Wanderers have the potential to shake up the status quo and challenge Nyasa Big Bullets for the league title.
