The High Court of Malawi in Lilongwe has stopped the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its leader Peter Mutharika from removing Charles Mchacha as the party’s regional governor for the south.

In a court document number 86 of 2023, High Court Judge Simeon Mdeza has issued the injunction restraining the two from implementing their decision until a determination of the matter or until a further order of the court.

The court has further directed Mchacha to file inter partes application for the continuation of his injunction within 28 days.

DPP fired Mchacha last week and replaced him with Thompson Kamangira, the party’s Deputy Director for international affairs, a move Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba described as a strategic arrangement ahead of the 2025 general elections.

The former governing party has been insisting that the removal of Mchacha is as a result of his stand against the endorsement of Mutharika as the party’s presidential candidate in 2025.

Mchacha who is known to be vocal and outspoken has been a member of parliament for almost twenty years now.

Since leaving the government in June 2020,DPP has been rocked in a power struggle following the eyeing of the presidency by various senior party members.

Civil works on the rehabilitation of M1 road has officially started.

According to reports reaching this publication, diversions have already started being created from Mponela.

What it means is that motorists will be using the diversions while the contractor will be working on the road.

Many have described M1 road as a death trap.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera launched the project on 12 July, 2022.

During the launch Chakwera said the rehabilitation of M1 Road is crucial to the economic development of the country.

Dr Chakwera while speaking at Mtiti Primary School Ground in Dowa during a development rally held after unveiling a plaque marking the official launch of the M1 Road rehabilitation works said by constructing the M1 road, he is sending a message to Malawians that development matters and should benefit all Malawians from Nsanje to Chitipa.

Dr Chakwera then thanked the European Investment Bank and the European Union for financing the project which he said will create over 4000 jobs in the country.

He said the over 300 kilometres stretch will also help provide confidence to development partners that even dualisation of the same road shortly will be possible.

The President, therefore, warned corrupt individuals to stay away from the project or face the law.

In his remarks, the representative of the European Investment Bank in Southern Africa, Jim Hodges, said they have committed huge sums of money after looking at the importance of the project.

His words were echoed by the former European Union representative to Malawi, Bartek Studniarask, who said the road offers a great opportunity to Malawi as the country needs to fully engage in international trade.

Mutharika will be 89 by 2025 why do some people want him to stand? Below are the reasons

On 17April, 2023, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Senior National Governing Council (NGC) member, Ken Msonda advised former President Peter Mutharika to shelve his plans which some greedy and misguided politicians are advancing.

The politicians do not wish Mutharika well by forcing him to stand at the age of 89. Many people have commented on this saying these people dont wish Mutharika well but rather they want him killed by political pressure coming with the campaign.

These greedy’ DPP gurus who mercilessly plundered and looted taxpayers money through dubious means have ganged-up to endorse ageing Peter Mutharika as the party’s presidential candidate for 2025 presidential polls in order for them to continue looting should Mutharika win the polls.

Mutharika

Mutharika will turn 89 in 2025 when the elections are due and this is too much.

According to some sources within DPP, the endorsements are political charade aimed at fooling Malawians to believe as if Mutharika is loved in all the four political regions.

The development has angered some sectors of the party, who have described the move as a dark day in DPP family as APM already announced that he would not stand again considering his age and falling health.

This appetite of continuing the plunder of state coffers is not wellcome in democracy.

Already some people are already answering charges for looting and abusing APM’s Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) TIP number by doing their personal business and nothing to do with state residences.
