President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has appealed to all the three arms of government to use power cautiously for the benefit of Malawians that they serve.
The Malawi leader was speaking at the closing ceremony of a two – day National Conference on Separation of Powers in Lilongwe on Tuesday 13th June, 2023.

In his closing remarks, Chakwera reminded the gathering that all powers office bearers hold are for service to Malawians and as such it must be used with humility consideration, wisdom, courage, caution and vision for the good of Malawi.
Chakwera appealed to all public office holders to continue adhering to the constitutional imperative of independence and accountability if Malawi is to realize desired national development in line with the Malawi Vision 2063 Agenda.
The president expressed gratefulness to the two arms of government for the solidarity that has allowed the conference to take place in the successful manner it did.
The two – day conference was convened under the theme; Separation of Powers: A Development Catalyst or Hindrance?
One of the country’s renowned law Professors, Professor Edge Kanyongolo has been elected as a member of the United Nations (UN) Committee on Enforced Disappearances(CED) during the Seventh Meeting of State Parties held in New York on Monday.
According to a statement in circulation and seen by 247 Malawi, Kanyongolo is among five elected members of the committee replacing those whose terms expire on June 30, 2023.

The other members elected are Matar Diop from Senegal, Barbara Lochbihler from Germany, Carmen Rosa Villa Quintana from Peru and Olivier De Frouville from France.
In brief,CED is a body of independent experts which monitors the implementation of the Convention for the Protection of all Persons against Enforced Disappearance by the States parties.
Edge Kanyongolo is a Malawian national who has taught at the University of Malawi since 1986.
He obtained his LL.B (hons.), LL.M and Ph.D degrees from the Universities of Malawi, Cambridge and East Anglia.
He is Professor of Law specializing in constitutional law and legal theory.
His research interests focus on the interplay of law and politics, especially in the framework of constitutionalism, democratic governance and development.
Kanyongolo has also participated actively in human rights advocacy programmes in southern Africa, including in his capacity as a trustee of the Media Institute of Southern Africa, a member of the Advisory Board of the Africa Programme of Article 19 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA).
Malawi Police in Dowa are keeping in custody a 30-year-old woman, identified as Susan Ndizo, on allegation that she attempted to conceal the birth of her child.
Ndizo was arrested a few days after police launched a manhunt for her as she was on the run.
Dowa police station Public Relations Officer(PRO) Alice Sitima said police received a tip-off from Rose Jaison, who heard the cry of a newborn baby, and knowing the status of the suspect, who was seen pregnant, she was sure that she was delivering.
“When she went out of her house to assist, she noticed that the sound was coming from her toilet and upon entering the toilet, she found the suspect busy throwing bricks into the latrine with the intent of killing the child.
“When the suspect saw Jaison, she immediately escaped,” she said.
She said however, the matter was reported at Matowe Police Unit where Police and medical practitioners visited the scene of crime.
Upon demolishing the toilet, the baby boy was found alive and taken to Dowa District Hospital for medical attention.
According to Sitima, the suspect will soon appear in court to answer changes levelled against her.
Ndizo hails from Chiponde village, Traditional Authority(TA) Mkukula in Dowa district.
One of the country’s fast-rising authors Ulemu Tandaude has published her second book titled ‘ Living and Becoming’.
The new book is after ‘The Journey to Forever’, a love and relationships book that she released in 2021.
In an interview, the author said ‘Living and Becoming’ is a Christian inspirational book that focuses much on how people can overcome the inevitable challenges of life without losing the sense of purpose or reason.
” This is a very nice book of mine and I urge everyone to fall in love with it if they are to be encouraged in whatsoever they do,” she said.
Tandaude said there has been a delay to publish the book as she was diagnosed with post traumatic disorder last year.
“Last year, I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Disorder. I had every reason to give up but there were series of events that happened inside of this moment as a whole; the prayers, the counselling, the friendships and family and above all the presence of God, all reminded me that I am not everything that went wrong but I am defined by something more,” said the female author.

She further urged the government to always acknowledge the diverse groups of arts in the country if it is to uplift the writing industry at international level.
“I think in Malawi, writing is one of the arts that have not yet been embraced. Many people who started writing gave up on the way because it is not really motivating and it is very difficult to get your book out there or to have it published. So we want government to look at these challenges writers face if our writing industry is to grow,” she said.
The author concluded by encouraging fellow authors to always work and never allow their dreams die immature.
“It is not an easy thing being a writer in Malawi. Many have not embraced reading yet and a diversity of art, so the focus should not first be the feedback or what but the first thing should be why you are doing what you are doing,” she urged.
Apart from being an author, Ulemu Tandaude is also an academician.
She Studied Bachelors of Education, majoring in Chemistry and Biology at Mzuzu University.
She is only a daughter in a family of five.
As a born again Christian, she is a member of Fountain of Victory Church and currently resides in the Malawi’s green city of Mzuzu.
Member of Parliament for Ntcheu Bwanje Constituency Alex Mwisho Chilikumtima has urged the people of his Constituency to take a good care of developmental projects which has been built under the Constituency Development Fund(CDF).
Speaking in an interview with 247 Malawi.com Chilikumtima said his vision to develop the Constituency is going on in a right track hence several development has been conducted in the Constituency through the raising of CDF which is helping to accelerate development in this country.
He said” the people of my Constituency must take a big role to safeguard and care for the development that has been conducted in several villages in the Traditional Authority Ganya, Makwangwala and Sub Traditional Authority Mkutumula.

The lawmaker further commended the government for coming up with a brilliant initiative of raising the CDF from K40 million to K100 million in the 2022 to 2023 national budget.
He said through the CDF they have managed to drill fourteen bolehores in several villages, constructing a bridge at Changa Bulaki village, health center at Tambala village.
He added that seventy less privileged students they are on bursaries at Bilila community day second school, twenty five students are at Ntcheu secondary school, sixty students are at Chikande secondary school, thirty students they are at Nachitheme community day secondary school, one and two students are at St Mary’s Secondary school and Likuni boys Secondary school respectively.
Government raised the CDF from K40 million to K100 million through the 2022-2023 national budget in the aim of scaling up development projects in all 193 Constituencies in this country.
