Chakwera and Mnangagwa Tour Conforz Macadamia Processing Plant in Thyolo

On Friday, the visiting President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, and his counterpart, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, toured the Conforz Macadamia nuts and Tea Processing plant in Thyolo.

The purpose of the tour was to provide the two leaders with an understanding of the tea processing business and its value chain.

During the visit, the Presidents explored the company’s offices and factory, where two significant foreign exchange earners, macadamia nuts and tea, undergo processing before being exported from the country.



Addressing hundreds of Malawians at Conforzi Plantations, located just two kilometers away from Thyolo Boma, the leaders emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in improving the lives of their respective citizens.

Following the tour, Mnangagwa praised the existing relationship between the two countries.

Later, in a Facebook post, Chakwera commended Mnangagwa for joining his Operation Tigwirane Manja Campaign.

He wrote, “While continuing with his state visit, Comrade Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa this morning joined Operation Tigwirane Manja, first by inspecting areas in Blantyre that experienced devastation from Cyclone Freddy, and thereafter making a donation to the victims.”
Chakwera explained that the aid package included food, school materials, sanitary supplies, blankets, kitchenware, and cement.

He further expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, stating that it would greatly contribute to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of the affected communities.

“I am pleased that Comrade Mnangagwa has assured us of continued support in our recovery and reconstruction efforts,” he concluded.

President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and his counterpart Zimbabwean President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on Friday 2nd June 2023 toured Tropical Cyclone Freddy affected areas in the southern region.

Mnangagwa arrived in Malawi on Wednesday 31st May, 2023 on a three day official visit.

The Zimbabwean leader arrived in Blantyre through Chileka International Airport from Mangochi.

He was welcomed by President Chakwera at Chileka International Airport amid pomp, glitz and glamour.

After inspecting and appreciating the devastation caused by the tropical storm, Mnangagwa is expected to make a symbolic presentation of relief items to the victims on behalf of the the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Later in the day, the two excellencies will visit Conforzi Plantation Limited in Thyolo District.

FDH Bank pumps in K5 million towards 3rd CEO summit

FDH Financial Holdings has pumped in K5 million financial assistance towards 3rd CEO summit to be held from 28 to 29 July,2023.

In an interview after handing over the amount of the cheque, FDH group Head of Marketing and Communications Levie Nkunika said the assistance is a show of the bank’s commitment to promoting sustainable development efforts in Malawi, including the Malawi 2063 vision.



The organisers Wealth Magazine’s Managing Executive Harry Chima, said the summit will, among others, reflect and map the way forward on how Malawi can achieve its development plans.

This year, the summit will be held under the theme ‘Redeeming MW2063 through collaborative business leadership’.

The event brings together top executives from various organisations, companies and government departments, to mull over various issues affecting the country’s economy.

After the summit, a golf tournament will be held in Lilongwe to raise funds for the construction of a library at Mkata village in Chileka, Blantyre, where school drop-out rates are high.

Nico Group presents gazebos to BDNC

Nico Group through its company Eris Properties has donated two gazebos to the Blantyre and District Netball Committee (BDNC) to be used during league games and in other netball activities in the region.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Eris Properties Ellen Nyasulu presented the donation to BDNC on Thursday in Blantyre.



Speaking after receiving the donation, BDNC Chairperson Vitu Gubuduza, thanked the company for its responsiveness and care shown to the Committee and netball sport in general.

“Blantyre and Districts Netball Committee is very grateful to NICO for their assistance when we called on them.
We had been in need of gazebos during our league games and when we asked NICO, they immediately said yes! We are very excited with this donation,” she said.

Last month Eris Properties also donated assorted materials to the Malawi national netball team, Malawi Queens.

HTD unveils uniforms for this year’s beach soccer championship

Halls Truck Division (HTD) Malawi Limited on Thursday unveiled uniforms for the six teams that will take part in this year’s HTD Beach Soccer National Championship scheduled for Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima this weekend.

The unveiling ceremony took place at HTD Offices at Ginnery Corner in Blantyre.

Speaking at the ceremony HTD’s Finance and Administration Officer Jawadi Medi said the company’s aim is to improve the welfare of the Beach Soccer athletes in the country.

He said, “Our aim is to make sure that the athletes are motivated . You know by the end of this two-day event, the winner will walk away with money but we added the kits to ensure we motivate and encourage the players to do extra more in order to get something at the end of the games.”



In his remarks, Beach Soccer Association Chairperson Gift Chimbalanga hailed HTD for the gesture saying his association is looking forward to an entertaining weekend in the Lakeshore district.

“We are very grateful to HTD for this timely gesture. This is a period where funds are difficult to come by but HTD stands out and we are very thankful for that.

We are promising fans that will watch the games to expect nothing but entertaining games from the six teams,” he said.

Apart from the games, people will also be entertained by music performances by man of the moment Zeze Kingston and Afro-pop singer Kelly Kay.

The draw for the competition took place last week when the participating teams were divided into two group of three teams.

Nkopola, Beach Eagles, and Munali were placed in group A while Nyasa, Deep Bay, and Chipala completed group B.

Last year, HTD became the first company to sponsor a Beach Soccer national competition in the country after announcing a two year deal worth K20 million a year.

The winner of this year’s competition will receive MK3 million, with the Runner-up getting MK1 million whilst MK500 000 will go to the third placed team.
