Kazako urges new mobile phone operator MALCEL to always comply with communications laws

Information and Digitalization Minister, Gospel Kazako has urged the newly licensed mobile phone company, MALCEL to comply with telecommunication laws that regulate the sector.

Kazako made the call on Thursday evening in Blantyre when the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority -MACRA was authorizing Sustainable Development Networking Programme(SDN) as manager for Country Code Top Level Domain.

The Minister said any non-compliance will land the new mobile phone operator in trouble.

“You have to know that you have entered the regulated space; which means you have to abide by the laws there. Any non-compliance, the story will change,” he said.



He further asked the company to speed up its operations so that it rolls out its operations soon.

MARCEL Chief Executive Officer, Boniface Ndawala said their company would strive at delivering the best in as far as communication is concerned in the country.

Ndawala also said MALCEL would create well paying jobs to people, that’s on top of complying with all the required fees it has to meet.

The company becomes the sixth in telecommunication sector.

Police in Mwanza have arrested a 25 year old woman identified as Flora Nkhoma for engaging in sexual intercourse with a 17 year old boy at Chikolosa village.

Flora fell in love with the young boy in June 2022 and since then the two have been having sexual intercourse.

According to Mwanza Police spokesman Edwin Kaunda, The parents discovered on October 16 2022 that their young boy is having sexual intercourse with Flora and they reported to Mwanza police station.

Flora got arrested on 18 October 2022 and appeared before Mwanza Senior Resident Magistrate Court on 19 October 2022 and pleaded guilty to the charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.

Flora comes from Ng’onga village TA Kanduku in Mwanza.

London Political Summit 2022 honours Malawian leaders Among Others  as Trade for Peace takes centre stage

The London Political Summit and Awards has this year once again included Malawians leaders its list of awardees. This was revealed at the gala event that took place at Mandeville Hotel in London to mark this year’s ceremony. The 2022 event which was the seventh since the beginning of the awards was held under the theme “Trade for peace: The Politics of Democratic Peace. Malawi’s High Commissioner to UK Dr Thomas Bisika was among those honoured by the Summit. Dr Bisika received the Diplomatic Peace Ambassador Award.

The London Political Summit and Awards is a socio-political platform that began in 2016, with the support of key political leaders of thought and academia. Over the years, they have seen great contribution such as the establishment of the Annual Uhuru/Raila African Peace Accord Awards, in honour of the two great sons of African politics, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, and Rt. Hon. Railia Odinga the former Prime Minister of Kenya, whose peace accord initiative in 2018, brought about democratic peace in Kenya politics. The main advocacy of the London Political Summit is to propagate and advance the need for political order, democratic peace and good governance among developing countries, through dialogue and cooperation

Speaking to the 247Malawi News, The Organiser of the summit Dr Godson Azu said the summit is getting bigger and recognised by people that matters, and as such getting better. “This year summit has seen us host a proper dinner gala night, which turned out good with about around 100 high profile guests and businesses, using a high-profile venue, Mandeville Hotel by Oxford Circus. Next, we would be targeting to reach over 150 high profile guests and businesses”.

Welcoming the attendees at the event was LPS official Allan Mandindi who in his welcome remarks thanked all those who took time to attend the event and also thanked those honoured in the awards for their tireless work in their respective countries and communities.

The Trade for peace: The Politics of Democratic Peace summit theme aimed to query how the role of power politics and control of resources is reshaping democratic order and peace in developing countries. A discussion on whether Trade among nations and within a nation can reduce conflicts and wars.  How can global fair trade promote Democratic order, Peace and Prosperity in the developing countries of the world and a discussion on whether Political leaders, non-states actors, and or citizens responsible for intra and inter states conflicts and communal wars

According to Dr Azo, this year’s summit has addressed issues of sustainable political ideologies, ethnoreligious values, social contract, trade as a tool for peace and leadership ethics for citizens governance and societal good. It will challenge the boundaries of gender equality in politics, powers of super driven media streaming and reportage, democratic integrity, post-pandemic restructuring and multilateral relationships in the national and international space. Bullets draw 1-1 with Blue Eagles in TNM Super League clash

Blue Eagles produced a display of remarkable resistance to hold on for a 1-1 draw with league leaders Nyasa Big Bullets in an exciting contest between two TNM Super League title hopefuls at Kamuzu Stadium.

The defending champions were hoping to create a 10 point gap at the top of the league but the Lilongwe Area 30 side looked more determined to hand Bullets their first ever defeat this season.

This was evident in the second half as Trouble Banda put the visitors in front in the 66th minute after connecting with a tap in from Micium Mhone’s pass.



Bullets responded through Chimwemwe Idana in the 73rd minute after receiving an assist from Patrick Mwaungulu.

With the draw, Bullets remain 8 points clear at the summit of the league after playing 24 games followed by Eagles who are stuck on second position with 50 points.

In other matches played on Saturday, capital city giants Silver Strikers lost at home 0-1 against Mighty Tigers. George Chaomba scored the only goal of the match to give Tigers the match needed three points.

Elsewhere, Dedza Dynamos relied on Charles Chipala’s lone goal to beat Mafco FC 1-0 in a match that was played at Dedza Stadium and Civil Service United beat struggling Rumphi United 2-1.
