Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda has hailed President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for his decision to increase Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K29 Million to K100 Million.

Addressing a rally at Kanyenje Primary School in Dowa East constituency, Chimwendo Banda popularly known as “Bulldozzer” said his area has experienced tangible developments with the money received.

He gave an example of six school blocks which have been handed over to the community for use.

Not only that, the Minister cited other development projects like health and national security.

“I think for a long time, the name CDF has not been welcomed in the country. It was associated with abuse, associated with selfishness, associated with corruption, but things are changing. I’m not saying that we don’t have issues anymore. But if you go out there you’ll find that CDF has made tremendous contributions in development,” said Chimwendo Banda.

Chimwendo Banda said CDF is bearing fruits because of a new set of guidelines which have been strengthened to avoid abuse of the money.

“We have improved our monitoring we have challenged ourselves to be audited each and every time. But at the same time there is more transparency and accountability with the use of CDF that has really helped.

“Government is working to tighten one or two issues, but as a Minister for Local Government, I can assure you that the CDF is able now to address critical matters under the leadership of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera,” he said.

He added: “The mere fact that His Excellency the President has increased the CDF from 29 million to 100 million. Now at least Members of Parliament, counselors and government committees are able to take bigger projects other than smaller ones. That’s why we are able to see the impact. It’s our hope that our CDF grows, accountability and transparency also grow. We are not going to sit down but to continuously monitor the usage of public resources to strengthen accountability and transparency so that things are done in the right manner,” he said.

Political activist Bon Elias Kalindo has advised Malawians not to focus their attention on the DPP infighting but to liberate their country out of the hands of President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and his MCP led the government.

Kalindo has observed that the year 2024 will be a year of drama in Malawi with one prominent politician deregistering his party to join the MCP saying this is a clear sign that politicians are there not for servant leadership but for their personal gains.

DPP infighting should not make Malawians forget liberating their country

He has assured the MCP led government that as long as it implements what is for Malawians be for Malawians such as raising salaries for civil servants, elections date to 21st May, 2024 not September, 2025, maize price reduction, ESCOM and water tariffs reduced, he will be quiet thanking government for standing with the poor Malawians.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Kalindo said Malawi is one such country on the planet Earth blessed by God with everything to make it rich but its leaders do not have a vision for the country.

Kalindo said it is sad that the whole government’s machinery is busy strategizing on plans to silence him with arrests and prosecutions in court forgetting that many of its citizens are in a hunger crisis surviving on ripe mangoes.

He said he and Malawi First crew members will not keep quiet seeing Malawians dying of hunger, hospitals running dry without drugs but to rise up and speak nothing but the truth in line with the country’s democratic principles.

The activist has described all plans which the government is making against him either eliminating his life or to rot in prison as time wasting and resources advising it to only just do the much needful by siding with the poor Malawian’s he will remain silent.

“I am not retreating or surrendering, you can arrest me even 200 times but I will not stop fighting for the poor in Malawi,” said Kalindo.

On civil servants’ salaries, Kalindo has made it clear that he sees no reason for Parliament not to adjust salaries for public servants but when it comes to their salaries, the bill is passed without any objection advising civil servants to wake up.

He has warned the government on shady deals happening at Mulanje mountain and Tea Estates in Mulanje and Thyolo that Malawi First is coming for it to reclaim what for Malawians to be for Malawians not to individual politicians’pockets.

Investigations which this publication has made has revealed that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) continues abusing its youths.

For a long time DPP cadets, some educated working in different organisations have been seen painting their bodies in party colours just as a show of loyalty.

This publication can confirm that the paint boys have been parading their painting skills at Golden Peacock in all the press conferences.

It’s sad that DPP can still continue abusing these youth and yet their manifesto speaks repeatedly on youth empowerment.

In the period 2019 to 2024, the DPP promised to embark on a comprehensive economic empowerment programme targeting all the people with deliberate focus on youth.

Chapter 20 of DPP manifesto says DPP sees youth as a demographic dividend
that will need to be harnessed in order to maximise on the benefits from the youthful population.

DPP promised to continue with the community colleges to train youths in different skills and link them to the market as well as promising the youth to support entrepreneurial behavior by providing soft loans to enable the trained youths to capitalize their businesses.

With all the sweet news promised, it is sad that DPP never did anything to support the youth than buying them 5 litres of paint for them to decorate party colours.
