Zikhale for youths talent development after the success of K4 Million football and Netball Trophy

The Ken Zikhale Ng’oma K4 million Football and Netball Trophy finals took place at Kachere Primary School ground in Nkhata-Bay south and the legislator, who is also the Homeland Security Minister has promised that he will continue to support the youths in the area with another trophy next year.

During the football finals, Green Tigers FC won 4-2 against Brazil Vuwa FC in penalties after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes.Tigers pocketed K1 million, and Vuwa FV received K500,000.

In the netball, Chichiri Netball Team were crowned the winners taking home K500,000 after defeating Warriors with 17 baskets to 13 baskets. The Warriors went home with K250,000.

The teams have also received various sports materials such as jerseys and balls at the matches. Former Flames coach, Kinna Phiri, Dowa west Parliamentarian, Abel Kayembe, and other MCP officials graced the event.

Ng’oma who is also Minister of Homeland Security has assured the youths in the district that he will be launching another trophy in January 2024.

Phiri has commended the initiative saying it is the best way for identifying talents among the youth in rural areas while on the other hand motivating youths who are jobless.

Malawi Police announces reduced cases of albino attacks

Malawi Police Services has announced that the cases of attacking people with albinism have drastically reduced compared with similar cases in the past.

Malawi Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya said only six minor cases habe been recorded so far. Kalaya commended Malawians for the support which has helped the reduction of the attacks.

The government through the Ministry of Lands in collaboration with the Department of Disability and Elderly Affairs embarked on the project in 2021.

The houses are fully secured with fixed steel doors, burglar bar windows and bathrooms and kitchen are inside the houses. The houses also have fences around them to enhance security.

In June 2021, at the commemoration of the
International Albinism Awareness Day at
Chigumula Ground in Nkhotakota, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera announced that his administration would build 793 secure and durable houses of people with albinism in the next five years.

Chakwera disclosed that the government had already set aside K400 million in the 2021-2022 national budget for the project.

Meanwhile, Association of People living with albinism (APAM) has hailed the Government for making people of the albinism live in a safe environment.

Nankhumwa warns DPP against tampering with voting electoral college

The leader of opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has warned Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Madala team against tampering with the electoral college as being circulated in the media.

The media has been reporting that the DPP 13 December, 2023 National Governing Council (NGC) meeting agreed to scrap off all the old college and replace it with a new one.

Addressing the press conference, Nankhumwa said he has fully been briefed that they have agreed to change all the positions especially those who vote at the convention.

But Nankhumwa has warned that such type of tyranic behaviour will not go without being challenged in court of law.

Nankhumwa said this is second attempt to remove these people following the first attempt in 2014.

With the look of things Madala team is so desperate for power. The DPP under Peter Mutharika know pretty well that DPP followers are protesting the Madala ayimaso campaign and they are looking for an alternative.

Tichi Automation to conduct industrial automation training

Chimwemwe Phiri, a Managing Director (MD) for Tichi Automation says his company will from December 27 to 29, 2023 conduct industrial automation training at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) in Blantyre.

Speaking in an interview with 247 Malawi News, Phiri, who has previously held similar trainings at the aforementioned institution, other technical colleges and training centres in the country, said the trainings help students for the industrial world.

He indicated that at a time robotics and automation are becoming the in-thing,the training also help the students get jobs as they gain hands-on experience, knowledge and skills.

“This training will be hands-on. It will involve wiring up and programming. The key focus is on programmable logic controllers. But we will have an introduction on the human machine interface [Connecting people and machines in line with current trends]. We will also look up variable speed drives, pneumatics and industrial sensors,” said Phiri.

According to him, programmable logic controllers are the main head of the industrial revolution youngsters have an affinity to, with industrialization as one of the key pillars in the attainment of the Malawi 2063.

Phiri said the time is opportune for interested people to programme and operate an industrial-related computer system that continuously monitor input devices which make decisions based on customised programmes.

He said upon the completion of the training, the students will be able to identify Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) inputs and outputs, Troubleshoot programs and perform visual inspections, create sequences and programmes, perform online uploads and downloads, and develop industrial projects.

He said the attendance fee for the training per participant is K60, 000.

Chimwemwe Phiri did his technical studies in Malawi and worked with Malawian companies before going to South Africa to work with a Denish tech company where he has been working as an automation technician.

While working with the company, he has also been undergoing different courses to do with technical and engineering studies.

In March this year, Phiri created a pick and place robot as a contribution towards Industrial automation.

The robot can be used in automated warehouses and factories for carrying things from one point to another.

Mafco reach Airtel Top 8 final after beating Silver Strikers 3-1 on penalty shootout

Mafco FC reached the final of the Airtel Top 8 Cup after beating Silver Strikers 3-1 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday afternoon at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.

The match ended 1-all in regulation time with the central bankers taking the lead through Patrick Macheso but the Salima-based soldiers took the match into penalty shootout, thanks to a late goal by Prince Kachere.

Mafco had their first chance in the 16th minute when Peter Kasonga found Mphatso Philmon in the box but the latter failed to find the back of the net.



The central bankers got their clear cut chance in the 24th minute through Uchizi Vunga who was left with only the goalkeeper to beat but opted to pass the ball to Duncan Nyoni only to be intercepted by a Mafco defender.

Silver broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with Patrick Macheso’s beautiful finish after a beautiful exchange of passes with Chimwemwe Idana who was also voted man of the match.

Benard Chimaimba had a chance to level the scores in the 39th minute but his header was easily saved by Silver goalkeeper Pilirani Mapira.

Chimaimba then got another chance in the added minutes of the first half but again his deflected shot was fumbled by Mapira.

The second half saw Mafco becoming a changed side as they were able to make good passes and create a number of scoring opportunities.

The homes side on the hand tried their best to increase the lead but Mafco defense led by their captain Paul Ndhlovu and Christopher Mikuwa in goals made it possible to deny the likes of Duncan Nyoni, Zebron Kalima and Stain Davie.

Nyoni had a chance to score in the 52nd minute but his effort hit the wood work and later picked by Mikuwa.

Afew minutes later Idana would have made it 2-nil with a counterattack move but his shot hit side netting.

The soldiers also had a number of chances to equalise but their men upfront were not sharp enough to convert them into goals with Benard Chimaimba and Peter Kasonga among the culprits.

After missing a couple o chances, Mafco finally got the back of the net through Prince Kachere who scored with a simple tap-in after Silver defenders failed to clear a Mphatso Phillimon’s cross.

Silver had a goal disallowed for offside in the added time when Emmanuel Kaunga headed in from a free-kick well taken by substitute Mark Fodya.

During the shootout, Mafco FC scored through Peter Kasonga,Paul Ndhlovu and Aubrey Chafewa while Silver scored through Innocent Shema.

Silver’s Chisomo Mpachika, Chikondi Kamanga and Mark Fodya missed their spot kicks while Paul Phiri missed one for Mafco.

Mafco will now Face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on 6th January 2025, a repeat of the FDH Cup final in which the People’s team thumped Mafco 3-0.

Bullets reached the finals after beating Blue Eagles FC 3-2.

Silver Strikers is the only team to have won the Airtel Top 8 twice and have been reaching the cup’s semifinals every season since it’s inception in 2017.
