The Non Governmental Organisations Regulatory Authority (NGORA), has announced that it is banning an organization called Real-Turn Plan International for operating in the country illegally.

According to a statement, which the body has released dated Saturday 26, August 2022, signed by it’s Registrar Voice Mhone, it indicates that the organization which is not registered, has been operating in Mulanje and other districts of the country without following proper procedures.

“We wish to warn the public not to have any dealings with Real-Turn Plan International as it is not a duly registered non-governmental organization in the country and therefore operating illegally.

The organization, parading as an NGO, is operating in Mulanje and other districts, asking money from people in order to employ them. These activities are fraudulent. NGORA has taken steps to stop the organization from operating in the country,” the statement reads in part.

NGORA Chief Executive Officer, Voice Mhone

The statement, further states that the organization has also been demanding money from people for them to be employed. Spokesperson for the board Lucy Bandazi, has also confirmed about the development.

Real-Turn Plan International, in an introductory letter signed by Coordinator Everson Kumisanjo and addressed to, among others, Mulanje District Council and traditional leaders, claims that it is a project for Cavoc International Group Limited funded by Sweden community based organizations and other associations to support vulnerable young people.

In the letter dated 25th July, 2022, Kumisanjo said the project was introducing its staff to identify young people who dropped out of school and are needy in order to help them continue with their education.

He further said that after collecting information through churches and villages, only those in need of immediate help will be taken to the district council and chiefs for consent and assistance.

Kumisanjo was also seeking the direction of the district council on how best his organization should go about managing the funds in the interest of the beneficiaries and went on to suggest that the council should call for a meeting in October before they could rollout the assistance.

One of the purported employment contracts between Real-Turn Plan International, Cavoc International Group Limited and a certain employee, which Nyasa Times has seen, shows that the said employee would start working on 1st September on a temporary basis and entitled to a monthly salary of MK130,000.

TNM Super League leaders Nyasa Big Bullets on Sunday put up another great show as they demolished relegation threatened TN Stars by a massive margin of 8-0 at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Anthony Mfune was on red-hot form
as he scored three goals against a hapless defence of the Kasungu-based side.

Mfune scored the first goal for the People’s team on the seventh minute after connecting well a Patrick Mwaungulu well taken corner-kick to put his side in front.

Precious Sambani increased Bullets’ lead just three minutes after the first goal with a brilliant header from another well taken corner
-kick by the youthful Mwaungulu.

Ernest Petro scored the third goal for the People’s team in the 27th minutes with a 30 metre drive beating Stars’ goalkeeper Noel Phiri

Goals continued to rain at Kamuzu Stadium as Blessings Mpokera finished well a Thomson Magombo’s pass in the 30th minute before Sambani came with his second goal and fifth for the Ndirande outfit just a minute later.

After creating a number of scoring opportunities Patrick Mwaungulu put his name on the score sheet after he received a beautiful pass from Frank Willard in the 37th minute.

Just when everyone thought the first half was to end at 6-nil, Mfune had other thoughts. He scored his second goal of the match after receiving a cross from Blessings Mpokera just six minutes to half-time.

In the second half, Mfune completed his hat-trick with a cool finish in the 59th minute and this was the last goal of the match as it ended 8-0 in favor of Bullets.

Bullets finished the game with nine players in the pitch as they run out of substitutions following Willard’s injury in the 87th minute.

After the match, it was a double celebration for Bullets’ defender Precious Sambani as he earlier received an award after being named super league player of the month of July.

Northerners demand UTM distances itself from Helen Chabunya statements against Netball Players

There has been growing calls from Malawians especially originating from Northern region that Saulos Chilima and UTM should come in the open and distance themselves from the remarks made by one of their own , National Executive Member Helen Chabunya.

UTM national executive committee member and close aid to Vice President Saulos Chilima, Hellen Chabunya, has come under intense fire for insults and tantrums against people from the northern region she posted on Friday on  her face book wall.

In the post, she blamed people from the northern region of nepotism simply because they have been picked to play for the Malawi National Netball Team, popularly known as the Queens.

Hellen Chabunya

Chabunya attached her sentiments to a screenshot of the Queens line up at the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in South Africa.

Chabunya first attacked Peace Chawinga before taking a dig at Laureen Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo, Grace Mwafulirwa, Takondwa Lwazi among others.

“Their coach is Chawinga, look at the surnames. We can’t be pointing fingers only when it is the Chewas or Lomwes. This is Tribalism,” wrote Chabunya who is also a close aide to party president Saulos Klaus Chilima.

Coincidentally, Chabunya’s anger with Northerners comes at the back of UTM’s poor showing at the recent local government elections held in Chitipa, Karonga and Balaka.

UTM candidates performed miserably in all the three wards where MCP won the Northern Region seats while United Democratic Front scooped the seat in Balaka.

Chabunya is a failed politician who once wanted to contest as councillor for Lilongwe Chigoneka Ward with one eye on becoming mayor of Lilongwe City.

Upon being rejected by Malawi Congress Party during nominations, she jumped ship to UTM but still failed to realize her dream.

To make matters worse she also failed to make the cut for any public position when Tonse Alliance won the 2020 Fresh Presidential election.

Her post, which was later taken down, has offended people from the Northern Region who have labelled her remarks as divisive and careless

Chabunya has so far responded, claiming his earlier post was misunderstood and that she has never been tribalistic

“The misinterpretation of my earlier post & it’s weaponization is a reflection of a society that needs safe spaces to address the deep rooted scars from the evil that is tribalism.
I have stood up for federalism, spoken up against quota system & other issues I believe in.
I have celebrated & supported the Queens and many other Malawians making strides in different fields because they are Malawian first and I will continue to do so.
I have stood up, pointed out & campaigned against tribalism & nepotism when it was perpetuated by any government or sector in Malawi (past or present).
Never have I experienced the bullying, castigation, threats, harassment & seen the joy, zeel & excitement of people who were waiting for an opportunity to attack me like today. It was also good to see friends & strangers reach out & engage constructively on the same.”

HRDC gives Chakwera 30 days to solve blackouts challenges

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has given President Lazarus Chakwera 30 days to solve blackouts challenges in the country.

The grouping through its Chairperson Gift Trapence has told President Chakwera to take the lead in finding long lasting solutions to the electricity problems.

HRDC further demands that the government should go back to Parliament to revise the Act that should bundle ESCOM, EGENCO and Power Market Limited – PML into one so as to cut costs and create a seamless entity that should be managed under one roof.

Gift Trapenze

“In simple terms, what the unbundling means is that instead of paying one single CEO, managers, employees and related operating costs, the electricity consumer now has to pay for three different operating entities. We would have no issue with this if the unbundling improved efficiency, reduced blackouts or brought the electricity prices down.

“But it has done none of these.” Reads HRDC Statement.

The Grouping has since threatened to mobilize Malawians to hold Countrywide demonstrations on October 12, 2022 if the government does not work on the demands.
