Ronald Mangani appointed press corporation CEO

Press Corporation plc has announced the appointment of Dr. Ronald Mangani as its Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) effective March 1,2023.

In a statement, the company’s secretary Maureen Mbeye says Mangani replaces Dr. Lyton Chithambo who had been the acting CEO since February, 2022.

She says, Mangani has demonstrable leadership skills including working as the Secretary to the Treasury of the Malawi Government between 2014 and 2017 hence his appointment.

” He also chaired the Board of Old Mutual Malawi Limited and served as an independent Director of the Boards of the First Capital Bank, the Reserve Bank of Malawi, the Malawi Stock Exchange, MDC Limited, and the Malawi Institute of Management;among several others.

” He was one of the founding members of the Economics Association of Malawi.

” In addition, Dr. Mangani was a network member of the African Economic Research Consortium of Kenya and part of the global faculty of the Tanzania-based Trade Policy Training Centre in Africa,” she says.

Mbeye adds that Mangani has also taken numerous consultancy and technical advisory assignments for various governments, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations and the international development agencies on the African continent.

She says ” He therefore, brings to PLC extensive experience in managerial leadership, investment decision making financial and economic management and strategic planning.”

Press Corporation Limited is a business conglomerate that serves as a holding company to fifteen Malawian businesses.

It is the largest business conglomerate in the country.

As of 31 December 2018, Press Corporation Limited had MWK:271,162,000,000 (US$376 million) worth of assets under management.

The company was founded in 1961, as Malawi Press Limited, a publishing Company.

It expanded rapidly, and by 1979 it had stakes in 17 subsidiary companies and 23 associated companies.

MCP Regional Chair Josephy Chavula declares interest to contest as MP

Malawi Congress Party North South Regional Chairman, Josephy Chavula has finally come in open declaring his interest to contest at the Malawi Congress Party Primary elections for the newly constituted Mzuzu City South West Constituency.

Chavula made the declaration on Sunday, 19th February, 2023 at the party’s regional offices in Mzuzu during his interview with media soon after the meeting that was conducted by the party’s Vice President, Harry Mlekanjala Mkandawire which was aiming at preparing the constituents of Mzuzu City Constituency to constitute area and constituency committees in all the three new constituencies of the City.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chavula said; “Our party is identifying potential candidates towards primary elections in these new constituencies. I am one of them vying for Mzuzu City South East Constituency, and very confident that I will carry the day come primaries in our party.”

Chavula further told reporters that MCP believes in credibility of every election, hence the meeting conducted by its Vice President to ensure all the committees are intact in readiness for credible, free and fair primary elections in these constituencies.

Chavula then commended Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for demarcating the City Constituency, saying it will promote meaningful development in the city.

“We as a party here in Mzuzu are very happy for the demarcation because it means tripling our Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which is currently at K100 million on the same parameter.” Said Chavula.

On unity, the regional chairman concurred with the party’s Vice President, saying the party believes in unity of purpose among its members for its strength and growth.

MUST student Michael Mapanje dies after falling from a top building

Death has been announced by Michael Mapanje,32, who was a second year student at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) inThyolo.

According to a police report,Japan has died after falling from the second floor of one of the buildings on campus.

On the fateful day (Saturday February 18,2023 ), the student who was drunk, accidentally fell down and was trying to step down to the ground floor during a social weekend party.

He was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre where he was rushed for treatment.

He hailed from Mvumu village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mukumpha in Rumphi district.

Chipiku Stores raises sponsorship package for CRFA League

Chipiku Stores has announced an increase in the league sponsorship of the Premier Division from K15.5million to K16.5million per year.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the award presentation ceremony that took place at Mchinji Community Hall in Mchinji.

During the ceremony Extreme FC were crowned the league’s champions after finishing top in the round 2 of 6 teams.

Beston Jimu of Extreme FC received the 2022 CRFA Chipiku premier division Player of the Season award.

Lilongwe man Andrew Mthiko arrested for selling dog meat

Police in Kawale, Lilongwe are keeping in custody Andrew Mthiko, 38, on allegation that he was selling dog meat.

It is reported that Mthiko used to conduct his business as a mobile vendor while roasting the meat on his charcoal bunner around area 24 and surrounding areas in the disguise of goat meat.

On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Area 24 Police officers received a tip-off that they are sniffing a strange smell from the suspect’s house.



Detectives went to find out only to discover that the suspect was busy doing braii (kanyenya).

When asked, he lied to police officers that it is goat meat for his personal consumption but his confession that it is dog’s meat came in when officers discovered skulls and fresh dog heads on top of the roof of his bathroom.

After his arrest, it was further discovered from on lookers, who have been his customers for a while that the suspect disguised the dog meat as goat’s.

Meanwhile, the suspect is in police custody and will be appearing in court soon.
