MUST student Michael Mapanje dies after falling from a top building

Death has been announced by Michael Mapanje,32, who was a second year student at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) inThyolo.

According to a police report,Japan has died after falling from the second floor of one of the buildings on campus.

On the fateful day (Saturday February 18,2023 ), the student who was drunk, accidentally fell down and was trying to step down to the ground floor during a social weekend party.

He was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre where he was rushed for treatment.

He hailed from Mvumu village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mukumpha in Rumphi district.

Chipiku Stores raises sponsorship package for CRFA League

Chipiku Stores has announced an increase in the league sponsorship of the Premier Division from K15.5million to K16.5million per year.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the award presentation ceremony that took place at Mchinji Community Hall in Mchinji.

During the ceremony Extreme FC were crowned the league’s champions after finishing top in the round 2 of 6 teams.

Silver Strikers Reserve walked away with the second prize and were also awarded for being the most disciplined team in the 2022 Chipiku Premier Division League.

Beston Jimu of Extreme FC received the 2022 CRFA Chipiku premier division Player of the Season award.

LUANAR Football Club’s Innocent Makawano finished the league as the top goal scorer after scoring 34 goals.

Lilongwe man Andrew Mthiko arrested for selling dog meat

Police in Kawale, Lilongwe are keeping in custody Andrew Mthiko, 38, on allegation that he was selling dog meat.

It is reported that Mthiko used to conduct his business as a mobile vendor while roasting the meat on his charcoal bunner around area 24 and surrounding areas in the disguise of goat meat.

On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Area 24 Police officers received a tip-off that they are sniffing a strange smell from the suspect’s house.



Detectives went to find out only to discover that the suspect was busy doing braii (kanyenya).

When asked, he lied to police officers that it is goat meat for his personal consumption but his confession that it is dog’s meat came in when officers discovered skulls and fresh dog heads on top of the roof of his bathroom.

After his arrest, it was further discovered from on lookers, who have been his customers for a while that the suspect disguised the dog meat as goat’s.

Meanwhile, the suspect is in police custody and will be appearing in court soon.

Open Hearts Network donates exercise books to Mwayi Primary School learners

In an effort to improve quality education in the country, a Blantyre- based youth group Open Hearts Network (OHN) on Friday donated exercise books and writing pens worth K500,000 to learners at Mwayi Primary School in Blantyre district.

Speaking after donating the items, the group’s Public Relations Officer Takondwa Velemu said the donation was part of the goals of the group which is reaching out to different people who are in need.

She said OHN members felt it very important to join hands in boosting learners at the school with the writing materials. .



“At OHN as our motto suggests, we believe that sharing is caring.

“We are here to make this donation in support of Mwana Alembe Project which aims at making a difference to learners by providing them with various materials” she said,” said Velemu.

Velemu said the grouping is into a project called’ Mwana Alembe’ which seeks to support learners in the country with different materials.

On his part, Mwayi Primary School Headmaster, Mac Lennan Kengere commended the youth group for the good gesture.

“We are very thankful for this donation.

“As teachers we are aware that many children do not have enough materials as things are now expensive such that many parents are finding it hard to provide these writing materials to their children.

“We do not take this for granted because the donated materials will make a difference,” kengere said.

Meanwhile, the grouping is calling on other stakeholders to join hands with it so as it can reach out to many beneficiaries.

The donation was made possible with generous support from members of the group.

Chimwemwe Idana joins Tanzania’s Mbeya FC

Former Nyasa Big Bullets FC midfielder Chimwemwe Idana has joined Tanzanian side, Mbeya City Council FC on a free transfer after parting ways with the people’s team in January.

According to information from the club, the player has signed a one and a half year long contract.

Former Malawi Football National Team, the Flames notable player Esau Kamwendo has congratulated Idana for his new opportunity and urged him to continue working hard.

Idana was the 2021 TNM Super League player of the season while playing for Bullets.

He had no team after leaving Bullets at the end of his contract in January this year.

The player tried his luck at South African club Sekhukune United but the deal did not materialise as the club’s foreign quota was full.
