Nyasa Big Bullets Vice President Fleetwood Haiya is now the new leader of the Super League of Malawi ( SULOM) after defeating Tiya Somba Banda by 30 votes against 18 at an elective general meeting held on Saturday afternoon at Nkopola Lodge in Malawi’s lakeshore district of Mangochi.

At the elections, Col. Gilbert Mitawa has been elected the Vice President of new SULOM executive committee.
Under Haiya’s leadership, football fraternity in the country should expect SULOM which has been in a stagnant stage for so long to revive.
Haiya is also expected to abide by his manifesto promise of setting up a professional and effective secretariat, as well as engaging in a vibrant commercialisation drive and ensure that clubs are financially stable.

One of the country’s beer brewing companies Castel Malawi Limited has officially launched the new 330ml packaging for its iconic spirits,Malawi Gin Malawi Vodka and Premier Brandy.
The new packaging is an extension to the existing spirit line.
Speaking during the event that took place at Grand Business Park in Lilongwe on Friday 24 February 2023, the company’s Sales and Marketing Director, Nelson Zoto Banda said this is part of their efforts to innovate and deliver quality products to the market.
” We aim to be very innovative and make our product accessible to everyone. That is why we thought of bringing the new accessible packaging ,” said Zoto.
Zoto said the change of the package has not changed anything as the taste of the spirits is the same.
Said Zoto:” It is the same spirit that people enjoy in pubs.
“The same iconic Malawi Gin, the same charming Malawi Vodka and the same smooth Premier Brandy.
“Yes, this is the same Spirit of Malawi with the same punch.”
The 750ml of Malawi Gin , Malawi Vodka and Premier Bandy bottles remain on the market and coexist with the 330ml bottles.
Malawi Gin and Malawi Vodka is selling at K2,500 while Premier Brandy at at K4,000.
” Take my body” a new song by Malawi’s famous Afro singer Dan Lu has raised debate among many Malawians on social media where some are describing it as a bad song while some describing it as a good one.
In the song that has been produced by the legendary producer, Tapps Bandawe, the singer is addressing a lover, whom he has missed, and wants to touch, kiss and quench his libido thirsty.
In a one minute clip which is trending on social media, the singer is narrating his libido craving in a native chichewa language.
He sings ” Ndilinyere!, Ndilindinyere!, I wanna touch you!, I wanna touch! Nakugubiratu chaka chatha, Lero night kwavuta. Bebi walayitu ndikumaka.Ndikumwera gondolosi, oh! Ine nde ndikuloka, oh! Ine bebi siyine ofooka!, zamgwiragwira zibaba!!.”

Meanwhile, social media users have reacted differently to the song ,with some accusing the artist of losing his cultural values in the choice of lyrics.
For instance, social media commentator, Joshua Chisa Mbere observes the song being an abomination.
Says Mbere“I can’t play that song in my house l’m a strict moralist.”
“It’s a hopeless composition, the fact that I posted it here, I have promoted it, but it’s very shallow in lyrics,”
Another social media user George Khumalo agrees with Mbere saying ” Siyabwino …message ya Nyimbo goes together ndi culture…values ..norms yomwe artsist akuchokera ..so in malawian society izizi sizabwino iyaaa….creativity alibe chabe.”
While Christopher Kalipinde comments in favour of the song.
He says “Vuto ndi culture yathu, it doesn’t buy this. Koma tamvelapo nyimbo ngati zimenezi in English especially za RnB, ena mpana akhala nazo mu song book yawo.
“Tavinapo “Sawasawa” ya Mr Flavour full of zachigololo lyrics.”
Another one Frank Akuzike also says ” Chavuta apa ndi chichewa koma palibe chavutapo apa ngati mamvela zachizungu nde kumeneko zambiri mbiri ndithu.”
Dan Lu recently released his 2023 first single titled “No money, no love” which is number one on malawi music chart website and has bee enjoying massive airplay.
He has dropped a number of musical hits in his musical career such as Shuppie, Part of Life and Akumva Pain.
Her real name Chifunilo Ndelemani is an inspiration to fellow women who dropped out from School after re-deciding of going back to School for a Secondary education is in form four at Mpando Community Day Secondary School in Dowa and is ready to sit for her Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) this year .
In her 40s, she could not hide her joy of going back to school despite having her own Secondary School going kids and being a traditional leader.
Chifunilo said she always admire fellow women in leadership positions and said to see Chiefs of this generation finger printing when a need to sign arises is a shame .
“I admire those women in leadership positions,I want to be one of the educated female Chiefs . Finger printing is for the gone generation,this is why I decided to do my Secondary school education”. Said Chifunilo.
Her Deputy Headteacher Mr. Patron Yoweli said Chifunilo is one of the hard working student at his school (Mpando Community Day Secondary School) considering the fact that she is a Mother , a Senior Group Village Head woman,and a Student.If supported by well-wishers in paying her school fees and buying her required pamphlets ,Chifunilo will be a motivational for Malawi and not herself.
“She needs support,it is taking her a month to finish her School fees and she has even borrowed her examination fees which she will pay double”. Said Yoweli .
Chifunilo Ndelemani (Senior Group Village Head Woman Jonasi of T/A Mponela says she is fighting for good MSCE results which will enable her to go to University despite having few challenges which include her Chieftaincy wrangles which forced her to be out in different Courts (High Court in Lilongwe) defending her village. She encourages those who dropped out from School to emulate from her saying everyone is a leader and to lead you need knowledge and knowledge is power
President Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the importance of a morally-upright labor force if the country is to achieve its aspirations.
Chakwera was speaking at Mzuzu Auction Floors on Friday where he was presiding over the 16th congregation of the University of Livingstonia.
At the ceremony, the President also acknowledged the University’s adoption of the national drive for development, as well as its complementing shorter-term blueprints.
The Malawi leader pledged his administration’s support for graduates from both public and private universities through various government initiatives.
” My administration pledges to support graduates from both public and private universities through the many government initiatives in place, “said Chakwera.
He concluded his long speech by congratulating all UNILIA graduates, urging them to use their education to contribute to the nation’s development.
The graduation saw 817 graduands from all the four university’s campuses graduating.
The University of Livingstonia has been operational for two decades and has aligned its programs with the Malawi2063.
