Thyolo 12 year old girl murder-Sister arrested

A 22-year-old Chikondi Samera is in police custody in Thyolo for allegedly murdering her 12-year-old sister, Mwayi Phiri.

Thyolo Deputy Police Spokesperson Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti has confirmed the incident.

Kashoti says Samera convinced her sister to go to Orama Resthouse at Thyolo boma.

There, she reportedly stabbed her sister multiple times on the navel.

She left the lifeless body under the mattress.

“The owner of the place discovered the body as he went to close the room and reported the issue to the police, leading to the arrest of Samera,” explains Kashoti.

According to Kashoti,reasons for the suspect’s action remains unclear as of now.

Postmortem at Thyolo District Hospital says death was due to severe loss of blood.

Currently, the suspect awaits court appearance to answer a murder charge.

Dog kills 10-year-old girl child in Lilongwe

A 10-year-old girl has died in Lilongwe after being bitten by a dog belonging to Safe Guard Security Services(SGSS).

Lilongwe Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Foster Benjamin said the girl, identified as Ellen Chawanda, met her fate yesterday at around 5 pm at Crossroads Hotel near Puma Filling Station.

“The girl, along with her elder sister, was heading home in Area 46 from Maula Prison side when she was suddenly attacked by the dog.



“The dog which had no muzzle on, had escaped from its handler Mtalison Damiano, 29, and bit the girl on the neck before it was killed by a mob,” said Benjamin.

He said the victim was immediately taken to Bwaila District Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Postmortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital indicated that death was due to severe loss of blood.

Police have since arrested Damiano, a Safe Guard Security Services employee.

The deceased was from Makanjira in Mangochi District.

Agness Jazza now First Capital Bank CEO

Oneof the country’s top financial institutions First Capital Bank Malawi plc has on Tuesday announced the appointment of Agness Jazza as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from July 21, 2023.

Jazza who becomes the first female CEO for the financial institution replaces Spiro Georgopolus who retired from the bank after a one-year tenure.

According to a statement signed by FCB chairman Terrance Davidson, Jazza established her career with the bank immediately after completing her undergraduate studies.

“Agness has for the past 25 years risen up the ranks due to her talent, hard work and loyalty. Her success is a true reflection of FCB’s belief in nurturing talent and commitment to staff development,” he said.

Prior to this position, Jazza was FCB Deputy CEO and has held various senior positions where she has been instrumental in driving the bank’s business growth and spearheading key strategic and operational changes.

She is a graduate of the Stellenbosch University’s executive development program and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Management College of Southern Africa (Mancosa).

First Capital Bank is a subsidiary of FMB Capital Holdings which is listed on the Malawi Stock Exchange(MSE).

Mota-Engil’s machine operator drowns in Likoma

A Machine Operator who until his death was working with Mota-Engil in Likoma was found dead and floating in Lake Malawi in Likoma.

Likoma Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sergeant, Enala Kalua said Fredrick Kathumba, 43, was found dead on Monday July 24,2023 at the new Jetty construction site in the district.

“Kathumba was last seen on July 20,2023 after knocking off from work and since then he did not report for duties until his body was discovered,” she said.



Kalua said the matter was reported to Police who along with a medical personnel from St Peter’s Hospital, rushed to the scene of the incident.

According to the PRO, the deceased hailed from Chiwere Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chiwere in Dowa District.

She said postmortem examination results revealed that Kathumba died due to suffocation.
Kalua has advised the public to be careful when operating around the new construction site and across Lake Malawi.
