South West Region Police score victory in crime reduction efforts

By Jones Gadama

The South West Region police have made significant strides in combating crime, boasting a 0.2% decrease in cases committed in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year.

This achievement was disclosed by South West Region Police Commissioner Emmanuel Soko during a review meeting in Blantyre.

According to Soko, the reduction in crime rate is a direct result of the symbiotic relationship between the police and the community. “We have reduced our crime rate this year. This is a good development, even though the figure seems small, but it’s an achievement. We have reduced crime, that’s the bottom line,” Soko said.

While the overall crime rate has decreased, Soko expressed concern over the prevalence of murder and mob justice cases in the region.

These cases will be a major focus of the ongoing review meeting, which aims to identify effective strategies for addressing them.

The police commissioner assured residents that the police will maintain a high level of vigilance during and after the Easter period, providing tight security to ensure public safety.

This proactive approach is expected to build on the momentum gained from the recent reduction in crime rates.

The South West Region’s crime reduction efforts are notable, especially considering the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in other regions.

In South Africa, for instance, the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, recently highlighted progress in reducing crime rates, with notable decreases in murder, rape, and aggravated robbery. However, challenges persist, including high levels of gender-based violence, organized crime, and corruption.

The importance of community-police collaboration in crime reduction cannot be overstated.

In the Kavango West Region of Namibia, Deputy Commissioner Johannes Kudumo emphasized the role of community engagement in preventing crime.

Strategies include promoting community awareness, encouraging community watch programs, and strengthening partnerships with the police. These initiatives have contributed to a manageable crime situation in the region.

In the South West Region, the police have likely employed similar strategies to achieve the recent reduction in crime rates.

Increased police visibility, intelligence-driven operations, and community participation in crime fighting have been effective in other regions, such as in South Africa’s Western Cape, where gang-related violence remains a concern.

The South West Region police’s achievement serves as a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative law enforcement efforts.

As the region continues to work towards reducing crime rates, the focus on addressing murder and mob justice cases will be crucial.

By prioritizing these areas, the South West Region police can continue to drive down crime rates, ensuring a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.

As the Easter period approaches, the police’s commitment to providing tight security will undoubtedly contribute to a peaceful and enjoyable celebration for all.

Mastering discipline with honor: A deep dive into those who live without discipline, die without honor by Modern Arjuna

By Burnett Munthali

Those Who Live Without Discipline, Die Without Honor by Modern Arjuna is a powerful and unflinching guide to mastering discipline in a fast-paced world that often rewards instant gratification over sustained effort. Published in January 2025, this concise yet impactful book delivers 62 actionable lessons designed to help readers cultivate the habits necessary to stay focused, motivated, and ultimately unlock their true potential.

Inspired by the timeless wisdom of Arjuna, the legendary warrior of the Indian epic Mahabharata, the author blends ancient values such as honor, resilience, and perseverance with practical, modern advice tailored to today’s world. This fusion of timeless principles with contemporary strategies sets the book apart from others in the self-improvement genre, positioning it as an essential read for anyone serious about personal growth and development.

One of the most striking features of this book is its clarity and accessibility. Modern Arjuna does not waste time on abstract theories or jargon-filled concepts. Instead, he offers clear, no-nonsense strategies that can be easily applied to daily life. The book focuses on actionable steps, such as breaking down larger goals into manageable daily tasks or using negative emotions as fuel for progress. The writing style is direct and motivational, making the book feel like having a personal coach right by your side, cheering you on with practical, real-world examples of how small, consistent actions lead to big results.

Readers on platforms like Goodreads and Amazon have praised the book for its “inspiring” tone and “easy-to-read” style. The book’s cover design, bold and striking, serves as a daily reminder to stay disciplined, a visual cue that reinforces the themes of the book. At under 200 pages, _Those Who Live Without Discipline, Die Without Honor_ is a quick and engaging read that won’t overwhelm the reader, making it perfect for anyone who feels stuck or is seeking more structure in their life.

The book’s core message is distilled into five key lessons that stand as pillars of its approach to discipline and self-mastery.

1. Discipline equals freedom

First, contrary to the misconception that discipline is restrictive, Modern Arjuna explains that true discipline grants freedom. By building consistent habits such as waking up early and planning your day, discipline creates structure in your life, which in turn reduces stress and opens doors to success. The author makes a compelling case that discipline is not a form of limitation, but rather a powerful tool for gaining control over your time, choices, and ultimately, your future.

2. Small actions build big results

Second, one of the central tenets of the book is that success is not built on grand gestures or monumental efforts, but on the small, daily actions that accumulate over time. Modern Arjuna emphasizes that committing to just one disciplined action each day, whether it’s reading for ten minutes or committing to a short workout, compounds over time and leads to significant results. The book reinforces the idea that consistency, even in small doses, is the key to turning ambitious goals into tangible achievements.

3. Motivation fades, discipline endures

Third, another important lesson from the book is that motivation is fleeting, but discipline is enduring. Modern Arjuna teaches that relying on bursts of motivation often leads to inconsistency and a lack of follow-through. Discipline, however, is about showing up, day after day, even when you don’t feel like it. This commitment to discipline ensures that progress continues, regardless of your mood or external circumstances, turning what might feel like monotonous effort into a powerful force for achievement.

4. Your habits shape your legacy

The book also emphasizes that discipline is not just a tool for personal growth; it has a ripple effect that shapes how others perceive and interact with you. By consistently demonstrating discipline, you build trust and respect with those around you, creating a positive, honorable impact that lasts beyond your own success. In this way, the book suggests that the habits you cultivate today are not just for your own benefit but also contribute to the legacy you leave behind.

5. Use setbacks as fuel

Finally, Modern Arjuna reminds readers that setbacks and failures are not roadblocks to success, but rather opportunities for growth. The book teaches that negative emotions such as frustration or disappointment can be harnessed and channeled into productive, disciplined efforts. By reframing setbacks as fuel for progress, readers are encouraged to turn challenges into stepping stones on their journey toward success.

In conclusion, _Those Who Live Without Discipline, Die Without Honor_ is a powerful, motivating read that offers practical, actionable lessons for anyone looking to master discipline and create lasting change in their life. Modern Arjuna’s no-nonsense approach, rooted in both timeless wisdom and modern-day applicability, makes this book a must-read for anyone seeking to build better habits, improve their focus, and unlock their full potential. Whether you’re a seasoned self-improvement enthusiast or someone just beginning to explore the world of personal development, this book will provide the tools and inspiration to take your discipline—and your life—to the next level.
