MCP kicks out its vocal member Alex Major over indiscipline

Malawi Congress Party-MCP has fired its vocal member, Alex Major for allegedly undermining President Lazarus Chakwera’s Super HI-5 and portraying conduct incompatible with the party’s four cornerstones.

Senior party officials have further told the press that Major has been dismissed for questioning the party’s critical issues and government’s handling of governance matter

Major, who chairs a grouping called General Membership of Malawi Congress Party, has declined to comment while MCP’s publicist, Maurice Munthali simply says he is trying to liaise with the party’s Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka before commenting.

He could not take further questions.

In December 2021, the party also fired Frank Chiwanda for breaching the four corner stones and failing to respect its governance structures.

Paul Chinchen,President of African Bible College has died

The President of the African Bible College Paul Chinchen has died. The announcement has been made by his family saying he suddenly left earth for heaven from a heart attack at his home in Jackson, Mississippi, USA on Wednesday, 6th July 2022.

“The Church around the world in general and the ABC Mission and Family in particular have lost a great leader and champion for Christ and Christian education; who devoted his life to the development of devout Christian leaders for the church, missions, education, government, media, non-profits, business, social work, community development, health care, and sports.” Read the statement

Paul had just returned from a mission trip to Malawi, where he was presenting degrees to graduates of ABC at a ceremony presided by the President of the Republic of Malawi, who knew Paul during his many years in Malawi building and leading African Bible College. Paul also founded the ABC Christian Academy, the ABC Clinic, and the African Business Institute. Paul died at the age of 58 on the very day Malawi was marking 58 years of Independence.

Paul has been a missionary with African Bible Colleges for almost 30 years serving with the mission in Malawi, Uganda and Liberia. Paul has been head of the mission since 2008, and Laura is Vice Principal of Recruiting and Curriculum Development for the ABC Christian Academy, an international mission school the Chinchens founded in 1998.

During Paul’s tenure as President he had overseen the re-opening of ABC’s Liberia campus after 17-years of civil war, increased the three colleges’ enrollment from 300 to 650, expanded degree programs from 1 to 7, opened ABC’s first television station, and helped established the first Hearing Clinic and Audiology degree program in the county ABC’s campus in Malawi.

Dr. Paul Chinchen leaves behind his wife Laura, and children Ashley, Cozz, Annabelle, Levi, Bess and Vanndel, and granddaughter Verona.

Lilongwe-based man wins K20 million in Premier Bet Super 5 Jackpot

A Lilongwe-based man Gift Nwauke (not real name) has won K20 million from a K20 stake in a Premier Bet Super 5 Jackpot.

Nwauke who runs a minishop within the Capital City predicted correctly all the five numbers to become the first grand winner.

Speaking after winning the big money, Nwauke indicated that he will use the money to boost his business.

On his part, Trevor Whitaker who is the Commercial Manager for Premier Bet says as a company they are excited to have a big winner since the game was introduced in Malawi about six months ago.

To play Super 5 Jackpot, a person predicts five numbers from 1 to 39 and winning starts from predicting correctly 3 numbers.

Retired Judge ,Justice Elton Singini has died

Retired Judge Justice Elton Singini SC has died.
According to the Communications from his family , Singini died at Kamuzu Central Hospital on Tuesday evening.

Until his death Justice Elton Singini, SC was the chairperson of the Governing Council of the University of Lilongwe.

He was appointed a Justice of the High Court on 25 August, 1995, and he took oath of office on 9 December, 1995.

He attended primary school at Khondowe in northern Malawi. He was selected to attend Dedza Secondary School in central Malawi. In October, 1970, He enrolled to study law at the then Institute of Public Administration at Mpemba in Blantyre, southern Malawi. The Institute later became part of the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree on Saturday, 26 July, 1975. He reported for duty at the Ministry of Justice on 28 July, 1975. He started out as a State Advocate.

Justice Singini rose through the ranks in the public sector. He became Chief Legislative Draftsman in July, 1984 and he eventually became the Solicitor General and Secretary for Justice in 1993. He was appointed a Justice of the High Court on 25 August, 1995, and he took oath of office on 9 December, 1995. He became the first Law Commissioner of the Law Commission in Malawi, through an appointment by the State President on 18 January, 1996. He served in this capacity until June, 2006. Justice Singini has also served as Vice president of ALRAESA and President of the Commonwealth Association of Law Reform Agencies.

Malawi celebrates 58 years of independence on Wednesday

Malawiaans will this Wednesday go into 58th year of celebrating the country’s independence and 56 years of its republic at a ceremony to be held in the Capital Lilongwe.

According to the chairperson of the organizing committee for the celebrations, who is also Minister of Lands, Sam Kawale, this year’s celebrations will only have National Service of Worship which will take place at Bingu International Conference Center from 9 o’clock in the morning of July 6,2022

“The preparation for this year’s 58th Independence National Service of Worship are now at a completion stage.

The event, which will be at Malawi Square, Bingu International Conference Center, will start at 9am, Wednesday, July 6,2022″. Reads in part the statement released by Kawale.

According to Kawale, the Worship service to mark the independent celebrations will be conducted under the theme *”Rise for a Resilient and Prosperous Malawi”.*

The National Service of Worship comes in after President Lazarus Chakwera directed to cancel the scheduled celebration programs as one way of saving resources amidst economic crisis.

President Lazarus Chakwera and the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera will lead Malawians in the commemoration.
