Bullets through to the Airtel Top 8 Semifinals

Nyasa Big Bullets have progressed to the semifinals of the Airtel Top 8 Cup following a 1-1 draw against Karonga United, 8-1 on aggregate.

In a match played on Saturday afternoon at Karonga Stadium, Bullets opened the scoring through Hassan Kajoke just 5 minutes into the match after receiving a long ball from Yamikani Fodya.

The home side equalized in the 65th minute through Mphatso Kamanga who connected home a well taken corner by Sharif Shamama, beating Bullets goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba from the far post into the top corner.



The first leg for the quarterfinal that was played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, ended 7-0 in favour of the People’s team

On Sunday, Mafco FC will host Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa.

The first leg ended 2-nil in favour of the Lali Lubani boys.

Malawians in Ireland Donate a modern house to elderly woman in Mangochi

A group of Malawians in Ireland under their association, Association of Malawians in Ireland ( AMAI) on Saturday November 26,2022 donated a house to an elderly woman at Mbalula area in Mangochi.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the association’s President Henry Mkumbira Phiri, said he was very excited to represent the Malawian Community in Ireland as he personally handed over the keys to the beneficiary Gogo Wetu.

” I am very excited to travel all the way from Ireland and handover the keys of this modern house to Gogo Wetu who for long time has been staying in a very small house together with her grand children.

” To me, I feel good that Gogo Wetu will now be staying in a good house,” he said.



Phiri disclosed that the Gogo Wetu’s house construction project costed the association K2,950,000 including a separate kitchen, toilet and bathroom.

He thanked all partners who financially contributed towards the implementation of the project.

” Let me thank everyone one who financially contributed towards the implementation of this important project including you Malawians living in South Africa and United Kingdom, you done a great job and may the good God bless you for this,” he thanked

Phiri further expressed his gratitude to the house construction project’s Manager in Malawi Priscilla Thawe who devoted her time to see the project a success.

The AMAI President also thanked his Executive Committee for their endless support throughout the project.

In her own words, the house beneficiary Gogo Wetu thanked the Association for the house.

” I am very thankful to the Association and all who took part towards the construction of this house.

” This house will now ease some of the challenges I had such as lack of good place to sleep and others,” said Wetu.

She then urged the association to keep doing this to her fellow elderly who are facing the same challenge

Mangochi district Social Welfare representative, Daud Saliwa said Gogo Wetu was identified because she was living in a small shelter with her 15 grand children.

” We were asked to find the one elderly woman in the district so that the association can construct a house for her.

” After our research, we found Gogo Wetu who was living in a very small house together with her 15 grandchildren,” said Saliwa.

The group village headman for the area, Kasila also thanked the Association for the good gesture and requested if they can do the same for others in his village including him.

AMAI is an association formed by Malawians in Ireland.

The Association has its long term vision to build one good house for the elderly in Malawi.

After Gogo Wetu’s house, the Association is expcted to embark on another house construction project next year and the beneficiary is yet to be identified.

Vice President Chilima arrested for Corruption

Vice-President Saulos Chilima has been arrested on allegations that he accepted money in exchange for awarding government contracts, the Anti corruption bureau has said.

He is accused of receiving $280,000 (£230,000) from a Malawi British businessman Zuneth Sattar “and other items”, a statement says.

Mr Chilima has appeared in court but has not commented on the charges.

He had already been stripped of his powers in June when he was first accused by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The vice-president faces six charges relating to corruption.

The British businessman, named as Zuneth Sattar, was arrested in the UK in October last year and is now on bail.

He is accused of using connections with senior Malawi government officials and politicians to fraudulently obtain contracts to supply goods and services. The contracts related to armoured personnel carriers, food rations and water cannons

Mutharika stepson slapped with Murder Charge

Former President Peter Mutharika’s step-son Tadikira Mafubza and four others have been charged with Murder and aggrivated trafficking in persons.

Meanwhile, Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza has committed the suspects to the High Court (Mzuzu registry).

She says, processes to apply for bail will be done at the Mzuzu Court.

Tadikira and the four others will remain in custody waiting for the processes to commence at the Mzuzu High Court.

The five were arrested in connection to the 30 bodies of suspected victims of human trafficking, which were found in a mass grave in Mtangatanga Forest in Mzimba District.

DPP faults Parliament over constituencies increase

The opposition Democratic Progressive Party -DPP has faulted Parliament for not rejecting the recommendation to increase number of Constituencies.

Last week, parliament adopted a report that increased number of Constituencies from 193 to 229.

In a statement signed by Shadric Namalomba, Former President Peter Mutharika’s spokesperson has said DPP is against the increase of constituencies.

“The DPP reiterates its position against the resolution to increase the number of constituencies from 193 to 229. The DPP believes that the economy of Malawi which is classified by the World Bank as a least developing country with a GDP of US$12 billion and with a per capita of US$625.29 as of 2020 cannot sustain 229 constituencies, “reads the statement.
