TNM reduces Voice-PayGo prices by 10%

As part of its continued efforts to improve affordability of telecommunication in the country, Telekom Networks Malawi ( TNM) plc has reduced downwards the prices of its Voice-PayGo and On net SMS services by 10 percent and 17 percent respectively .

According to a statement, the county’s mobile network and ICT provider says the new prices are effective January 4,2023.

The company says it has also revised Patsetse data bundles , by allowing the customers to use the full speed of the selected bundle until 100 percent exhaustion of their bundles volume.

“The product will no longer be unlimited with a fair Usage Policy(FUP) but internet access will be terminated after exhaustion of the allocated volume” reads part of the statement the company has released.

Established in 1995, TNM the oldest telecommunications company in the Malawi.

The company has a total network of 380 base station sites and transmission sites across the country.

Chikoti Chirwa to join Mozambique’s Costa do Sol

Zomba-based Red Lions FC have announced that their captain Chikoti Chirwa is set to leave the country for Mozambique to join Costa do Sol on an outright season long deal.

In a statement in our possession, the team’s general secretary Francis Chalulu says Chirwa was supposed to be in Mozambique by January 3, 2023 but it has been delayed because the club is waiting for an approval from Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Headquarters.

“We wrote a letter to the higher authorities for clearance since he is also a serving soldier in the Malawi Defence Force.

“Since we were on festive season holidays and just resumed work on Wednesday 4th January, we have the hope that the impending departure by the player will be given a seal of approval, ” says Chalulu in a statement.

This is another opportunity for the player who saw his deal with Polokwane City flop in January, 2021.

Born on March 9 1992, Chikoti Chirwa is a Malawian footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Red Lions and the Malawi national team.

He was included in Malawi’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Wanderers signs Mighty Tigers left back Emmanuel Nyirenda

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have signed Mighty Tigers left-back, Emmanuel Nyirenda who has signed a three-year contract with the Lali Lubani side.

The contract will see the player who also play as a Centre-half staying up to 2025 at the Club.



Nyirenda becomes the fourth signing for the Nomads as they prepare to for the forthcoming season.

Stormy rains have killed 49 people this rainy season- DoDMA

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs ( DoDMA) has disclosed that so far, Forty-nine people have died since the onset of the rainy season due to stormy rains and lightning in the country.

In a statement, the department says of the 49, 28 people died due to lightning strikes while 21 died due to collapsed walls following stormy rains and strong winds.

It adds that, so far, 105 people have sustained various degree of injuries.

Cumulatively, 12 978 households (approximately 58 401 people), have been affected.

“The disasters have also caused damage to roads, schools and hospitals,” reads the statement in part.

It adds ” The department has also received preliminary reports on damages caused by heavy rains, strong winds and stormy rains that have affected Mulanje, Likoma and Mchinji Districts; respectively.”

Meanwhile, the department says, currently, it has reached out to 9,228 households (approximately 41,526 people) with relief assistance which include food and non-food items namely; maize, family tents, housing units, kitchen utensils and plastic sheets for temporary roofing.

Chitipa United appoints McDonald Mtetemera as Head Coach

Chitipa United FC which has just been promoted into the top flight league, TNM Super League, has appointed McDonald Nginde Mtetemera to be their head coach who will lead the team in the forthcoming soccer season.

The team’s General Secretary Duma Ngoma confirmed the development saying Mtetemera has signed a two-year contract with the team.

Towards the end of the just ended TNM Super League season Mtetemera was head coach for the Chiradzulu based side, Sable Farming FC which got relegated to the lower league after finishing 14th in the 16 member TNM Super League.



Before joining Sable, Mtetemera was the Assistant Coach for the central region giants Silver Strikers and has also coached teams like Dwanga United and Blantyre United.

Chitipa United were promoted into the elite league after emerging champions in the Simso Inno Build northern region football league.

A couple of days ago, the northern region side signed three players in readiness for the super league season and reports indicate that the team is also seeking the services of Kadona FC coach Luke Milanzi who will be working as an assistant to the former Sable Farming boss.

TNM Super League is expected to be back into action for the 2023 season in March this year.
