President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday received letters of credence from High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia Lieutenant Panji Kaunda (rtd) at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

In an official statement from the president , he said he was pleased that Malawi’s relations with Zambia continue to thrive. Chakwera said the two countries share a rich history, such as the struggle for independence from the late 50s and achieved our respective feats in the early 60s.

“Save for the colonial boundaries imposed on us decades ago, the two countries have striking historic similarities in many aspects that make our social, cultural and lingual cohesion even more pronounced.
It is from this likeness that we both desire to exploit economic opportunities for our people via trade, investment, tourism, cultural and education exchanges” said Chakwera.

Before officially meeting President Chakwera , Kaunda also met Foreign Minister Nancy Tembo on Monday.

During Hon. Tembo’s meeting with Kaunda, discussions centred on the promotion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation including through infrastructure investment projects such as the Twala and Nacala Corridors, One-Stop border posts, and Malawi’s participation at the African Union mid-year Coordination Conference in Lusaka.
