Jafali Chande gave Mlatho Mponela the lead early in the first half but Sulumba leveled off before the recess.

In the second half, the former Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers striker doubled his tally, scoring his tenth goal of the season.

The result sees Civil Sporting moving to fifth position with 44 points from 28 games while Mlatho Mponela are still stuck on fifteenth position with 23 points from 29 games and even if they win their final match, the points will not be enough to save them from going down to the premier division.

At Mzuzu Stadium, Gilbert Chimbalanga scored the only goal to inspire Mzuni FC to a 1-0 victory over Moyale Barracks to boost their surviving hopes.

The result takes the Green Intellectuals out of the relegation zone with 26 points from 28 games.

The Mzuzu based side will now compete with Dwangwa United for the final slot.

Brian Banda resign from Times over corruption accusations

0
Unconfirmed reports are indicating that journalist and media maverick Brian Banda has resigned from times over professional misconduct. Brian is said to have been summoned to a disciplinary hearing because he solicited kick backs from a UN official for him to slot an interview with the official. The UN office wrote the Media company informing it, on their bewilderment with Bandas corrupt advances. Social media is also awash with reports that management has been having problems with Bandas vivid alignment with the opposition, as he seemingly used times as a platform to advance MCPs political cause. Banda, made a name for himself in his days at Capital FM, later he became State House press officer under former president, Joyce Banda. He later joined Times Group. His charismatic persona, intrinsic questioning during interviews, and his cunning drive during phone-in programs have earned him a big name and accolades over the years. He is a big loss to Times but their reputation and impartiality is more valuable to preserve as a media entity. Rumour has it that he harbours an ambition to start a media company. Whatever direction he will take from here, we wish Brian well in his future endeavors.

“Before holding our rallies at Katoto School Ground and Bumba at Rumphi the same Saturday, the leaders will visit the late Chakufwa Chihana’s tombstone and lay a wreath as one way of respecting him because he was one of the freedom fighters the country cannot forget,” Mhango said.

Family member Enock Chihana, who is Aford President, confirmed that they granted HRDC permission to visit Chihana’s resting place.

“We have given HRDC members a go -ahead to pay tribute to our father. We know that he is also the father of many Malawians who recognise his role in fighting for democracy. That is the reason that the place remains a public place,” Chihana said.

Aford spokesperson, Khumbo Mwangulu, said the party has not received any official letter on HRDC’s plan but said the development is commendable.

Chakufwa Chihana died on June 12 2006.
