India External Affairs Minister on a visit to Malawi

India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan is paying an official visit to African nations of Zimbabwe and Malawi — a trip that started from June 6 to 9.

During his visit to Malawi, the Minister will call on Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, and will meet other senior leaders of the country.

He will also hold talks with Nancy Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malawi on matters of mutual interest and cooperation. He will also meet a wide cross-section of the Indian community in both the countries and participate in events marking “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations during the visit.
Muraleedharan will also review the progress of the development assistance projects under the Government of India Lines of Credit (LoCs) and Grants in both countries.

India shares excellent bilateral relations with both Zimbabwe and Malawi ranging across political, economic, cultural, and development assistance fields, which have particularly strengthened in the past few years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian leadership maintained close contact with the leadership of both the countries and supported them in their fight against the pandemic. The visit of the Minister of State for External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar would add further momentum to the multifaceted relations with these countries. (ANI)

The Minister of National Unity Hon Timothy Mtambo is in the Republic of Uganda leading a seven man delegation comprising of Officials from his Ministry of National Unity , National Planning Commission , NICE Public Trust Malawi and Malawi Public Sector Reforms on a study tour of mindset change and good governance initiatives as the Republic of Malawi prepares to set up a Governance Training Institute in support of the Malawi’s 2063 National Vision.

On Monday 6th June 2022 , the Malawi Delegation visited the Department of Philosophy of the Makerere University in Ugandan Capital City Kampala which majors in ethics and integrity studies and a youth run NGO named Mindset Change Initiative in the outskirts of Kampala.

Two members of the Gupta family have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates, the biggest step yet in South Africa’s fight to bring the kingpins accused of orchestrating the looting of its state companies to account.

A judicial inquiry into state graft spanning more than three years detailed close links between the brothers and former President Jacob Zuma, with numerous witnesses alleging that they worked hand-in-hand to siphon money out of state transport, power and arms companies and jointly decided who was appointed to the cabinet. The government has said at least 500 billion rand ($32 billion) was stolen during Zuma’s nine-year rule.

The cold and cloudy weather is affecting power generation-ESCOM

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi( ESCOM) says the cold and cloudy weather is affecting its power generation resulting in a drastic sharp demand for electricity against inadequate supply.

The company says this is what is destabilizing its system hence frequent power supply interruptions in some parts of the country.

However, to balance the system, ESCOM says it will commence loadshedding for customers in group A more than an hour and that the customers will be updated accordingly as the situation improves.

Meanwhile, the company has advised the customers in the said group A to switch off all their electrical appliances as power supply may be restored fully sooner than expected.

Castel Malawi Managing Director Herve Milhade fined K1 million over Chamba cultivation

Blantyre Senior Resident Magistrate Court on Monday June 6,2022 ordered a 60-year-old Herve Milhade, Managing Director for Castel Malawi Limited , to pay a K1 million fine for cultivating Indian Hemp popularly known as Chamba or serve a one-year jail if he fails to pay the amount.

Milhade and his accomplice Murie Jan, aged 50, pleaded guilty of the offence on June 2, 2022.

passing his judgment, Justice Chipofya told Milhade and Jan to appeal for the case if not satisfied with the ruling.

The two were arrested on April 8,2022 at Milhade’s residence at Kabula Heights in Blantyre.

A total of 59 plants of the hemp weighing 45 kilogrammes were found at Milhade’s home.

The plants were forfeited pursuant to Section 17(6) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
