The new Secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba has announced a suspension of all civil Servants meetings outside their duty stations.
She said this is in addition to the austerity measures on government spending announced by president Lazarus Chakwera recently.
She announced this in Lilongwe during her first meeting with Principal Secretaries of various ministries.

“No government institution or parastatal is permitted to conduct meetings in Mponela, Mangochi or Salima,” Zamba said.
She said the directive is an economical measure meant to save government resources which will be redirected to critical needs.

Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola, has called on Malawians to be patriotic and avoid vandalizing transformers and other ESCOM machinery.
Addressing the media in Lilongwe on Wednesday under the Government Faces the Press platform, Matola said vandalism is costly and affects the economy of the country.
He added that the country is still recovering from the 129 megawatts lost due to Cyclones that hit Malawi a few months ago.
The Ministry of Tourism has this morning closed down Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre. The Ministry officials together with Minister Michael Usi stormed the hotel premises on Wednesday morning to demand the closure of the hotel
The closure follows its failure to pay the annual Tourism and Hotel Licence fee.
According to tourism officials, the hotel has failed to pay the fees despite several reminders.The licence expired in 2021.
Minister of Tourism Michael Usi accompanied by officials from the ministry is conducting a hotel inspection exercise in the city of Blantyre.
The hotel will be required to pay a fine of K50 thousand before it reopens.

Barely weeks after visiting the Malawi government’s administrative headquarters, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera returned to the Capital Hill on Tuesday where he engaged heads of public institution including ministers, ahead of the launch of the launch of the Public Sector Labs.
Writing on his Facebook wall, the President said the Tuesday’s meeting is one of the preparatory meetings for the launch of the long-awaited Private Sector Labs to be launched in July. “I have spent a better part of my working day at the Presidential Delivery Unit at Capital Hill to align various public institutions to our agenda for private sector and investment growth ahead of the launch of the Private Sector Labs in a couple of weeks’ time” said president Chakwera.
President Chakwera further highlighted that the Private Sector Labs will focus on identifying and addressing persistent impediments to foreign investments and business growth in the country. The Malawi leader also hinted that the Private Sector Labs will scale up government’s efforts on job creation and food security in the country. “These efforts will resultantly put us on a track to achieve our priority focus area up to 2025; job and wealth creation drive and food security,” said the President.
The meeting pooled together heads of institutions that are critical to the success of the private sector growth.
