TNM Super League:
Nomads bounce back to beat Red Lions 2-1

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers came from behind to grab three points in the ongoing TNM Super League, beating Red Lions 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday

In the first half, both teams failed to capitalise on scoring chances and it ended goalless.

The Nomads succumbed to the pace and pressure from the Zomba-based soldiers in the 56th minute when Andrew Biyo gave his team the much-deserved lead.

Wanderers quickly responded through former Nyasa Big Bullets striker Chiukepo Msowoya who equalised just three minutes after the Lions’ goal.



Another former Bullets player, Muhammad Sulumba scored the winner for the Lali Lubani boys as he headed-in a Stanley Sanudi corner in the 62nd minute.

Despite the win the Nomads remain third on the log table with 22 points from 11 games while Red Lions are on position 12 with 12 points having played the same number of games as Wanderers.

At Mpira Stadium, Civil Service United relied on Bashir Maunde’s 75th minute spot kick to beat Mighty Tigers 1-0 and snatch the much needed three points away from home.

Elsewhere, Karonga United were 2-1 home winners against TN Stars in a match that was played at Karonga Stadium.

The home side scored through Ramadan Mtafu and Josiah Duwa while Alexander Cosmas pulled one back for the visitors.

Bullets extend lead at the summit after beating Silver Striker 3-1

Nyasa Big Bullets surged four points clear at the top of the TNM Super league as they proved far too strong for Silver Strikers, beating them 3-1 at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

Bullets who are yet to test defeat this season were on top once Patrick Mwaungulu find the target on 12 minutes with a beautifully taken free kick curving the ball past Silver’s goalkeeper Charles Thom.

Babatunde Adepoju increased Bullets lead at 17 minutes after receiving a cross from Mwaungulu before the Nigerian converted a penalty 6 minutes later to cap off a superb performance by the home side.

The central bankers pulled on back through Stain Davie just a minute before the end of the match after a defensive lapse on the part of the home side.

In another match played on Saturday Mafco FC thrashed Rumphi United 3-nil at Chitowe Stadium.

The Salima-based soldiers relied on Dan Chimbalanga’s goal and Peter Kasonga’ brace to secure maximum points and move to from position 8 to sixth position on the log table.

Blue Eagles and Kamuzu Barracks played out to a goalless draw in a match that was played at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.

The draw means the Eagles have now played three consecutive games without victory and they are on position two with 28 points.

Babatunde Adepoju is now the leading scorer in the league after scoring seven goals followed by Silver Striker’s Stain Davie and Trouble Kajani of Rumphi United who have so far scored six goals each.

Clouds of uncertainty continues over Bingu’s unexplained wealth

From rags to riches.This description fits the fallen third President of the republic of Malawi Bingu Wa Mutharika.Bingu became an overnight billionaire in his stint stint in power raising eyebrows on how he got the wealth

According the Nation newspaper,Bingu’s wealth was valued at MK150 million when he as assumed power in 2004,but his forfune suged to MK61 billion the time of his death in 2012 raisimg some eye blows to how he acquired the fortune.The delopment prompted some people to raise the flag to ACB to conductive investigations on the matter.

Nine years later,time spanning from 2022 to 2022 no probe has been done by the graft body

According to the reports by the Nation newspaper,the ACB reported in 2019 that the investigations on the matter stalled because of the missing information the body obtained from Bingu’s offshore accounts on the matter

“However,our investigation shows that the ACB probe stalled after the graft busting body announced in 2019 that the information it obtained from Bingu’s offshore bank account in Jersey Island went missing.”

Wrote the Nation:According the information from Standard Bank Jersey Limited ,Bingu opened a joint Optimum Account number 58099848 with his daughter Duwa Mutharika Mubaira.The reports alleged that the former Bingu stashed cashi in foreign countries including the Jersey Island.Bingu was also rumoured to have properties in the United States of America,the United Kingdom (UK) and Zimbabwe

While acknowldging the receipt of information from the ACB,Director of Public Prosecution Steve Kayuni said he is yet receive a request from the ACB to write the Jersey Island to release the details on the matter

“There has not been official communication from ACB that the information is missing.This is unfortunate.We hope that it will be sorted ou..Normally,Malawi has to re-process the request for authorities of New Jersey Bank to release the details.”Said Kayuni

The controversial former head of state died suddenly in April 2012 from cardiac arrest.He left when the broken economy resuilting from the scarcity of forex and shortage of fuel.

President Chakwera in Bilateral talks with Buhari

President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi who is currently in Equatorial Guinea for African Union Extraordinary Summit, has on Saturday, May 28,2022 held talks with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria aiming at strengthening the ties between the two nations.

During the meeting that came on the sidelines of the Summit currently underway in Malabo in Equatorial Guinea, the two leaders discussed a number of issues benefiting the people of the two nations, among others trade agreements, energy, and recovery of economies for the two countries.

“President Buhari and I share similar sentiments that the two countries should continue exploring more areas of natural cooperation to cement our people’s shared aspirations.

We talked on how Malawi can draw some value from Nigeria as an oil producer. Oil is a major driver of our economy and makes Nigeria, a strategic partner.” Read part of President Chakwera’ message posted on his official Facebook page.

President Chakwera further described the relationship between Nigeria and Malawi as vital that needs to be enhanced, and that him and his counterpart (Buhari) have discussed the preparations to open Malawi’s embassy in Abuja-Nigeria, as one way of fully formalizing their ties.

President Chakwera is in Malabo-Equatorial Guinea for an African Union Extraordinary Summit alongside other AU member states leaders.

Malawi’s boxer Issac Chilemba loses latest fight in Poland

Malawian boxer Issac Chilemba has lost his latest fight that took place at Hala Globus in Lublin , Poland. He was defeated by Osleys Iglesias in a 12 round bout that the judges unanimously declared as the winner. Chilemba boxed well, but the combination punching of the Cuban prospect carried the fight

The12-round battle was Largely dictated by Osleys Iglesias with the verdict being a formlity. The judges scored 120-107, 118-109, 118-109 in favour of Iglesias. The 24 year old amateur standout based in Germany, attacked from the opening bell. Though a southpaw, he wisely used his jab early against Chilemba, a righty. The 34 year old South African-based man from Malawi spent too much time on the ropes and in the corner where Iglesias unleashed hard combinations.

Chilemba came short of Iglesias in Poland

Chilemba made his professional debut in Gauteng, South Africa on 19 October 2005 . He has fought on differents weights in his career and has fought some of the big names in boxing that includes Tony Bellew and Bivol

Iglesias is now 6-0 with 5 KOs. Chilemba, who briefly retired from boxing after his last fight, is now 26-9-3 with 10 KO
