The long awaited Mumba Revolving Fund (MUREF) has officially been launched in Mzimba Central Constituency in Mzimba district, with the aim of providing easy access to loans for people in the area.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Euthini, founder of MUREF who is also contesting as member of parliament for the area, Vitumbiko Mumba said the fund will benefit people in the constituency regardless of their political affiliations.
The 500 million Kwacha initiative is expected to provide an ongoing financial support and empower people especially women and youth aged between 18 to 60 to have access to finances by starting or expanding their enterprises and small-scale farming activities.

After the unveiling ceremony, Mumba who is also President Lazarus Chakwera’s running mate in the forthcoming General elections, held a Mega rally at Euthini Community Secondary School in the district.
United Transformation Movement (UTM) president,Dalitso Kabambe, has reaffirmed his party’s commitment to fighting corruption, nepotism, and cronyism, stressing that integrity and accountability will remain at the heart of UTM’s political agenda.
In an interview with 247 Malawi News, Kabambe said UTM remains unwavering in upholding values that protect Malawians from practices that have undermined the country’s progress for decades.
“As UTM, we remain steadfast in our commitment to zero tolerance for nepotism, cronyism, and corruption.
“These are the evils that have for far too long denied our people the dignity and prosperity they deserve,” he said.
The UTM leader emphasized that UTM’s partnerships and political decisions will always be guided by principle rather than convenience.
“We will only work with those whose values align with ours. Where there is no alignment on these ideals, we shall not compromise. For us, integrity will always come before political expediency,” he said.
Kabambe also raised concern over the growing politicization of tribal cultural associations, warning against political parties hijacking such institutions for partisan purposes.
“We believe that our tribal cultural associations must remain sacred spaces for unity, heritage, and identity. They belong to all Malawians, regardless of political affiliation. We reject the dangerous trend where some political parties have hijacked cultural associations for political mileage. Let it be clear:tribal cultural associations belong to all Malawians, not to political parties,” he said.
The former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM ) Governor reiterated that UTM’s vision is to create a fair and united Malawi.
“Our commitment is to a Malawi where fairness, unity, and integrity reign.Our vision is simple yet powerful: One Vision, One Malawi,” said Kabambe.
He further assured Malawians that UTM is determined to deliver a new Malawi built on accountability, fairness, and unity of purpose.
“Together, we must always put Malawi first,” concluded Kabambe.
The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has assured the public of steady fuel availability in the country, saying 160 million litres of fuel have already been procured for September and October.
Speaking in Lilongwe at a joint press briefing with the National Oil Company of Malawi Limited (NOCMA) on Saturday, MERA Chief Executive Officer(CEO ) Henry Kachaje said the authority is relying on both Government-to-Government (G2G) arrangements and Open Tender processes to guarantee sufficient fuel supplies.

Kachaje revealed that a vessel carrying nearly 48 million litres of petrol and diesel is already en route to Malawi.
He said in addition, 56 million litres of petrol and 57 million litres of diesel have been secured to meet national demand.
MERA CEO further urged the public to desist from practices that threaten fuel security, stressing that the volumes procured in 2025 are already 27 percent higher than the total supplies secured in 2024.
Malawi had been experiencing fuel scarcity in the past few days resulting in long lines in fuel pumps.
Former President of the Republic of Malawi who is also DPP leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has dismissed claims which are being made by other opposition leaders that he will leave office after one month from his election into office.
There have been claims other opposition leaders are making that Professor Mutharika will leave the presidency to his running mate Justice Dr. Jane Ansah SC and he is just taking Malawians as a ladder to advance politics of Justice Dr. Jane Ansah SC.

Mutharika said after he was ousted from government in June, 2020 he has been working day and night to develop his party assuring Malawians that he has no such plans of giving the presidency to someone and he will finish his 5 year’s term of office.
Speaking at a jam packed Chilimampunga ground in Mtandire location- Lilongwe on Saturday at the launch of the 2025 DPP manifesto, Professor Mutharika said in 2019 he promised Malawians that he would turn Malawi into Singapore but his plans were cut short following his ousted from government.
Professor Mutharika assured Malawians that at the end of his 5 year’s term of office, he will make sure that his plans of making Malawi as Singapore are fulfilled and it is up to Malawian themselves to ask him to stand for another 5 years.
He said the DPP-AFORD Alliance is coming not only to change the country but to liberate Malawians to be in total freedom from slavery of intimidations, hackings and arrests if one has posted on the internet something basing on free speech.
The DPP leader said the late President Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda preached of one unity, one Malawi and one nation saying as Malawians they need love with one another observing that Malawi is one, there is no any other country apart from Malawi they have.
“Let’s work together to develop Malawi, we need Malawi of love and of one unity, we have no country apart from Malawi,” said Mutharika.
On the DPP manifesto, Professor Mutharika urged Malawians to read the 90-page manifesto in English, Chichewa and Tumbuka describing it as “People Centred Manifesto” saying power will be for the people to decide on their development projects not Capital Hill deciding for them.
Professor Mutharika said he accepted to stand because Malawians are in pain and sufferings expressing hope that the support Malawians are giving him will continue to vote for him and the DPP on the 16th September, 2025 elections for an outright 70 percent win with no second re-run.
He appealed to Malawians that are for change to join hands to the 16th September, and after the 16th September, 2025 elections to build a new Malawi encouraging people to go door-to-door campaigning telling one another what the DPP is bringing to the country.
Former President and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Arthur Peter Mutharika has vowed to develop Malawi and make it look like Singapore if given another chance to govern the nation in the upcoming September 16 presidential election.
Speaking at a mega rally held at Chilimampunga Ground in Lilongwe on Saturday afternoon, Mutharika said he is determined to serve Malawians again, promising food security, economic prosperity, and national unity.
“I will not hand this country to anyone if God keeps me alive. I will work and serve the people of Malawi. I want to build a new Malawi where everyone has enough food and prospers,” he said.

The 85-year-old former president dismissed critics who question his age.
“Those who are talking nonsense about my age must stop. What matters is my vision and commitment to the people,” he said.
Mutharika further told the gathering that he accepted to contest again in order to rescue the country from what he described as ‘the path of destruction’.
He stressed that his mission is not for personal glory but for national transformation.
Mutharika expressed concern over Malawi’s global rankings, noting that the country is now rated as the second poorest and the third saddest nation in the world.
“This is disheartening, and I am coming to change that,” he said.
The former president encouraged his supporters to intensify campaign efforts by reaching out door-to-door to secure a first-round victory for the DPP.
He said he is confident that the party will win regardless of the circumstances.
Mutharika said the youth and women remain the backbone of his campaign.
He then expressed excitement and gratitude for the huge turnout at the rally.
“I am very impressed with the mammoth crowd that has gathered here. It shows the people’s trust in us,” he said.
On her part,Mutharika’s running mate Jane Ansah described the former president as a legal expert committed to protecting rights and freedoms.
She said: “ Mutharika respects the rule of law.He never tolerated shedding of blood and people demonstrated freely.”
Others who attended the mega rally include DPP Second Deputy Vice-President Enock Chihana,Liberation for Economic Freedom (LEF) Party President David Mbewe,National Development Party (NDP) President Frank Mwenefumbo, and several senior party officials.
