CFT clears Mtambo name on False accusation of Siren Use ,and claims Chakwera doesn’t want Mwenefumbo

By Durell Namasani

Citizen for Transformation Movement (CFT) which is led by Commander in Chief Timothy Mtambo  has come to the rescue of its leader after media reports  falsely claimed that Mtambo Used Sirens on his whistle stops in Karonga Central and made statements that President Chakwera does not want UTM candidate to win. The reports indicated that Mtambo, who is Civic Education and National Unity Minister , in the company of fellow cabinet minister Richard Chimwendo Banda  used sirens on their vehicles, something that is only accorded to the President and his Vice. It has however been established that the reports were not true but was the work of political propaganda as campaigning hots up ahead of the by elections scheduled to take place on November 10th

In a statement signed by CFT communications strategist Negracious Justin, CFT had noted with shock and dismay of the malicious allegations taking rounds in the media, directed at Timothy Mtambo,  It is said that  an article published by the Nyasatimes on 25 October 2020, alleged that  Mtambo  together with the Minister of Homeland Security, Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda, used sirens on their convoy in Karonga, a privilege legally confined to the State President and Vice President in the political sphere.

Mtambo and Chimwendo Banda in Karonga with Leonard Mwalwanda.

The statement also clarified on the the other claims  made that; While conducting a political rally to drum up  support for the MCP candidate, Leonard Mwalwanda, Honourable Timothy Mtambo purportedly remarked that the State President does not  want Mr Tumpale Mwenefumbo, a candidate for UTM to win the by-election in the constituency.  CFT said it wanted to place it on record that  the aforesaid allegations are not true and are nothing but a product of a systematic  smear campaign and propaganda, perpetrated by CFT’s rivals groups and the UTM party agents  who it claims  are clearly on a mission to tarnish the image of the CFT and its leadership.

It also says the  allegations are also part of the rival’s overall strategy to sow seeds of division in the Tonse Alliance, led by his Excellency, Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

CFT made a statement weeks ago when it made it known to the public that the movement and its leader would support the candidacy of Leonard Mwlawanda , MCP candidate who is fighting for the role against former MP and UTM candidate Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo. Since Mtambo was seen campaigning in the area , he has received a barrage of attacks  from people not happy with his stance. CFT statement claims that most of the attacks are being perpetrated by Mwenefumbo . “ CFT records that this is not the first time the Mwenefumbo and UTM sponsored media personnel have published  this cheap propaganda which happen to surface each time Hon Mtambo visits the constituency to drum up support  for Mr Mwalwanda” reads the statement .

The movement has called on Media Houses and Journalists to make sure that they are responsible with there reporting so that only true  stories are published for public consumption.

“In the spirit of peace and responsible journalism, we implore on the media to verify the stories before being published  to avoid misleading the public on important issues”

The movement has threatened that stories that are aimed at reputation damage  will give them no choice but to seek legal action

UK MP Paul Bristow calls for strong ties with Africa in his London Political Summit address

By Staff Writer

The Member or parliament for Peterborough, Paul Bristow has called for strong and improved relationship with African Countries. He was speaking at the recently held London Political Summit where he reiterated the need to build on the historical relationship that UK has with most African Nations.

In his address, Paul Bristow said United Kingdom values the potential Africa has, to be one of the successful continents on the globe. He said because of the existence of Commonwealth, United Kingdom will always uniquely be placed to build productive relationships with African countries, and, it is for this reason that Britain wants more engagement with African Nations.  “UK prime minister has visited more African Countries than any other President in just one year. UK is extending its network in Africa with many high commissions re-opening, new Ambassadors, and new trade relationships” said Bristow. He therefore  called for the need to renew the relationship  in order to work together towards helping Africa reach its full potential.

Paul Bristow- Africa /UK relationship historically stronger

London political summit is an annual programme put together in 2016 in think tank platform to look into issues concerning democracy, peace and good governance between the African and Commonwealth nations. This year’s event which took place virtually due to the Covid pandemic looked at the impact of Post Brexit, Post covid in relation to African Continents and how nations can benefit from each other in terms of democracy, trade and other economic related agendas. Several high profile guests  were in attendance that included MPs from the house of the parliaments in the UK, MP from the house of Parliaments in Kenya, Malawi and Nigeria

This year’s summit also saw the flagship Uhuru/Raila Peace accord Award being awarded to Former Malawi President Peter Mutharika and the incumbent President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for the peaceful transition of power at the just recently ended presidential elections in Malawi. Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Media Officer Allan Mandindi said the summit was grateful that Paul Bristow attended and spoke highly of the relationship that exist between Africa and Britain.  “The relationship is indeed historical and it is our duty to harness it so that  it benefit the people on both ends economically but also for the promotion of good governance”

On the peace Award that was awarded to Malawi leaders, Mandindi  said “Its great seeing that the London Political Summit and awards Uhuru /Raila Peace Accord has been awarded to Malawi Current and Former Presidents. Malawi has demonstrated to the world that despite the political differences power can be handed over from one administration to the other without violence. We have seen how difficult it is to have a smooth transition in Africa. I applaud the current President H.E Dr Lazarus Chakwera for preaching the message of peace throughout the campaign and insisting on unity through his Chakwera “Super Hi5”agenda –  Servant leadership, Uniting Malawi, Prospering together, Ending Corruption and Rule of Law. The former President also played a crucial role by accepting defeat and remaining quite allowing President Chakwera to govern without political interference”.

Paul Bristow is a conservative member of parliament who was elected into office in 2019 elections. This was not the first time that he has got involved with London Political Summit as a speaker after being a key speaker first on the pre event summit that took place early this year.

Tonse Alliance! you are on camera

By Cosmas Steve Mvula

HD Plus is not the company; nor is it the modern drone. It’s the human eye. Just as the old say that all talk and no action signals imbecility to the nth degree you, Tonse Alliance, have all the time and space to dance to your own ready-made beat; your promises.

The contentious 23rd June 2020 elections’ results was but a passport to high office whilst announcing the elapse of lip-service of the politicos on one end and an end of ears-pricking the citizenry were obliged to in those grand rallies and all media platforms on the other end. Much as we, the citizenry, aren’t adept at dancing we cherish our blessings of our eyes to see and our minds to judge. And we will guard our blessings for they are our valuable assets.

Our eyes await actions of a government that promised a lot (or was it enough) to the citizens. Lest you forget, your agenda to winning the elections wobbled from poverty eradication to social development which convinced the fifty eight percent of Malawians to vote for Tonse Alliance.
As the citizenry we’re raring to see an end to all politically connected outstanding cases you promised us to push to the very end once voted to power. This is time to attrite the bad actions of the past- the DPP- regime which played hide and seek to uphold the rule of law.

Not forgotten on those cases is that of our brother the late Robert Chasowa (may his soul rest in eternal peace). You promised us to see an end to this case and we’re waiting keenly on how this burning issue will cease fire and how the president will keep no sacred cows hiding in the alliance. We assume this case is as simple as ABC to close as you implicitly communicated.
Before our eyes too is the popular universal subsidy (“universal” as per its meaning and not the diluted version you want to surprise us with) which we expect to be operational beginning 2020/2021 growing season. The majority votes you wooed considering that many Malawians depend on agriculture need a special promised treatment..

Our minds still have a grip on the importance of Access to information Law. Tonse alliance! Through your parties you did all you did to push the past regime on enacting the aforesaid law and we as well expect you to find it easier to operationalize what you pushed for.
As this is the government of people, by people and for people we aren’t blind on the observations made by the current president and his vice that the president’s powers crave a reduction. And not only that, the description of the vice president’s duties is also on top of the list of the deliverables unlike being a derogatory position as it has always been. We chiefly believe that this development will enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the highest offices of the land.

Tonse Alliance! We’re as well waiting to see the promised relief to the needy and disadvantaged university students. You promised to provide the needy and disadvantaged students with laptops each to ease their studies. We thank you in advance for the initiative which will enhance human capital development without delay at the expense of future Malawi

Our memories are still fresh on bringing an end to fraud and corruption. On the other hand, as you have already stared taking steps to bring to book those suspected to have stolen taxpayers money we ask you to continue at the same pace to closing those cases whilst at the same time staying awake to the control measures you have put in place.

Tonse Alliance! We’re also waiting for the incentives to the Financial Service Providers so that needs and wants of young entrepreneurs are identified before the design of specifics products. This initiative will complement the MEDF loans and eventually the creation of the promised one million jobs will cease being a dream but a reality.
Of course your in-tray is already full as per your promises but much as we identify ourselves with that fact we expect you to act with full knowledge that five years isn’t anyhow far. We will judge you as per your actions.
