Moyale’s Fulao Mwale elected New Sulom Vice General Secretary

Moyale Barracks general secretary Major Dines Fulao Mwale has been voted as Super League of Malawi (Sulom) vice general secretary during an annual general meeting that took place at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi on Sunday.

Mwale won the race with 23 votes defeating Nyasa Big Bullets’s former Chief Executive Officer Escort Chinula and former Silver Strikers’ general secretary Mike Tembo who amassed 21 and 04 votes respectively.

Civil Service United GS, Ronald Chiwaula withdrew from the race days before the annual general meeting.

Mwale has replaced Zacharia Nyirenda who was fired following his mismanagement of gate revenues in a game between Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets during a first-round match at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Journalism graduate, Bernie Kankhono embarks on a project to protect the environment

In an effort to eradicate dangers that come due to climate change and protect the environment, a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism ( BAJ) graduate at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Science ( Mubas), formerly the Polytechnic Bernie Kankhono has embarked on a project called lens on climate change aims at protecting the environment and recognize the climate change champions in communities.

In an interview, Bernie Kankhono said the project is a professional development where they ads assigned to cover and report articles on adaptation and good activities that will help reduce the climate change challenges.

He said the project also recognises climate change champions, those people that are helping to reduce the impacts created by climate change in their communities.
” Through this project, we want to find out how many people are working hard to reduce impacts created by climate change in the communities and what other new steps should we carry on in fighting against issues of climate change.
” It is a very nice project trying to engage young people to be climate ambassadors so as they help in reducing the impacts caused by climate change and also reducing carbon emissions”, said Kankhono.

Kankhono who is among only 23 young journalists who have been awarded the grant globally by the British governmeng to implement the project said his future plans through the project is to continue advocating on better practices on resilence and mitigation to climate change.
” My plans are to continue advocating on better climate practices so as to completely end challenges that come due to climate change. Am very happy that am part of few who have been awarded this grant and I promise to bring change through this initiative”, he said.

He said currently, he has already produced 3 climate change related feature stories and more than 8 news reports through Malawi Broadcasting Station ( MBC).
“Currently, I am producing 3 feature stories on the climate change which are shown on MBC TV in beyond headline, a news and current affairs program. I am also working on the same at Lake Chirwa in Zomba”, said Kankhono.

In his words, Excutive Director of Leadership for Environment and Development ( Lead), Professor Sosten Chiotha commended Kankhono’s involvement in the climate change actions. In his appreciation, Chiotha gave Kankhono a book he co-authored on climate change so as to extend his reporting skills on climate change.

Stich Fray To Drop An EP on Monday

Singer, song-writer and music producer Stich Fray will on Monday 13th September drop his new EP, titled ‘Rock Bottom’,

Speaking in an interview the Blantyre based musician said the 8 track EP will be premiered on MBC Radio 2 FM’s Made on Monday program hosted by Joy Nathu.

The EP features Kell Kay, Jay Jay Cee, Tsar Leo, Mwanache, Avokado, Black Nina, Ababa Surgent, Dj Ruebbie, Ray T, J Mike and Dimmar.

He said, “The EP you have been waiting for is finally dropping this coming Monday and I promise you are going to enjoy each and every song in it. I believe it will be one of the best EP’s this year.”

According to Stich Fray the EP will be available on social media platforms , all local websites and fans will have to pay K1000 to get a copy.

Stich Fray real-name Steven Chibwazi started his career in 2008 as a member of a Dance hall Group called Afarisi but came in the lime light as a solo artist after releasing his first single “4 minus 3” in 2013.

He then released his debut mixtape “Dreams and Thoughts” in 2014.

Stich was also a member of the defunct music group “Trap Squad” and produced their debut mixtape Family Over Everything (F.O.E) in 2013.

In his career, Stich Fray has released notable hits like __Ndinalota, wamupeza, Shuga, Zoti Ndimakukonda, Golide Wanga_Someone Like You, Tizipemphera_ and __Mtima_.

First-Half Goal Gives Mighty Wanderers Victory Over Silver Strikers

First-half goal from Vincent Nyangulu gave Mighty Wanderers victory over Silver Strikers in a TNM Super League match that took place on Saturday at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

In an open first half, the central bankers were first to threaten through Stain Davie and Blessings Tembo but Wanderers defense tried their best to denie the two an early goal.

Silver looked the more enterprising side early on but Wanderers broke through Nyangulu after receiving a pass from Stanley Sanudi.

Davie had a chance to level the score-line but his header was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa

In the second half, Wanderers looked more determined to increase the lead as Yamikan Chester and Vitumbiko Kumwenda exchanged brilliant passes but Francis Mulimbika’s touch went wide.

On the other hand Silver’s search for an equaliser continued as Blessings Tembo, Stain Davie and Maxwell Phodo tried to find the back of the net but Wanderers defense made it possible to denie the home side the much needed equaliser.

Wanderes made a double substitution bringing in Peter Cholopi and Felix Zulu for Peter Wadabwa and Vitumbiko Kumwenda before bringing in Mike Kaziputa for man of the match, Yamikani Chester.

Silver brought in Thuso Paipi, Frank Banda and Chinsinsi Maonga for Zebron Kalima, Maxwell Phodo and Blessings Tembo before bringing in Nixon Mwase and Patrick Macheso for Levison Maganizo and Young Chimodzi jnr.

The win for Nomads has reduced the gap to seven points with the central bankers who are perched on second position with 52 points but Silver have played two games more than Wanderers.

Bullets remain top with 55 points from 26 games while Mzuzu Warriors are anchoring the log table with 18 points having played 29 games.

In other super league matches played on Saturday, Mighty Tigers and Mafco FC played out to a 2-all draw at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre while Kamuzu Barracks claimed a 1-0 victory over fellow soldiers Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu.

Ekwendeni Hummers through to fdh bank cup finals

Tnm Super League side Ekwendeni Hummers are through to FDH Bank Cup finals after overcoming Northern Region Premiere League side Rumphi United 3-2 on post-match penalties in semi-finals on Saturday.

The match which was played at Karonga’s soccer Cathedral saw the two teams complete a 90+3 minute goal less game which forced them to land into penalties.
Ekwendeni Hummers goal keeper proved his predatory instincts as he served three outstanding spot kicks during penalties.

Rumphi united missed their chance as they missed 4 out of 6 penalties letting Ekwenden Hummers score third goal in sudden death period.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Ekwendeni Hummers coach Edison Kadenge Mwafulirwa could not hide the excitement over the to the finals
He said: “This win is history added to our team and we are happy with the win, God has been on our side, this year we are enjoying and as we go into finals, we shall conquer.”
He has since urged his players to put more effort in the next game so as to win trhe games.

Ekwendeni Hummers in Action

In a separate interview with Rumphi United coach jimmy Butao described the loss as a sign of failure to implement what he advised his players to do.
He said: “It has been tough for us to win today because our players failed to do what we had urged them to do during the training.”

Butao has further said his team’s supporters should not lose hope in the team but always support it.
With the win Ekwendeni Hummers will play in the finals on a date later to be announced against a team that will immerge winner between Silver Strikers and Wanderers fc.
