“This prize is a blessing from God, and I’m grateful to Azam TV for making it possible,” he said.

Geoffrey Mvuwu, another lucky winner, took home a brand-new motorcycle. Mvuwu was overwhelmed with joy, saying, “I never expected that one from the north would win, considering that TV is based in the south and not in the north.People should have confidence in Azam TV.” His win was a testament to the fairness and transparency of the raffle draw.

The raffle draw was conducted fairly without human intervention, with entries coming from different regions. According to Azam TV, 41% of entries came from the South, 37% from the North, and the remaining percentage from the Centre. “We’re happy with how subscribers responded to the competition, and we’ll continue with these competitions,” he said. Azam TV’s slogan, “Chisangalalo Kwa Onse” (Joy to All), reflects its commitment to bringing joy and entertainment to its subscribers.

Trump claims role in India-Pakistan ceasefire after three days of armed conflict

By Burnett Munthali

In a dramatic turn of events that captured global attention, Indian and Pakistani officials announced a ceasefire agreement Wednesday morning, effectively ending three days of intense armed conflict between the two neighboring nuclear powers.

The conflict, which erupted earlier in the week, had raised international concerns about the potential for escalation between India and Pakistan—two nations with a long and tense history of military confrontations.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Foreign Minister, took to social media to confirm the ceasefire, stating that both sides had “worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action.”

Jaishankar’s remarks indicated that diplomatic efforts were underway even as the fighting raged on, and that both governments ultimately opted for dialogue over continued aggression.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, announced that the ceasefire was to take effect immediately, marking a swift and decisive pause in hostilities.

Dar’s declaration suggested a sense of urgency and willingness on both sides to de-escalate the situation and prevent further loss of life or damage.

While the exact cause of the conflict remains under analysis, the speed at which the ceasefire was brokered points to high-level involvement and backchannel negotiations likely taking place behind the scenes.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has since claimed that India and Pakistan reached the ceasefire agreement following his involvement, although the nature and extent of his role remain unverified at this point.

Trump’s assertion, if substantiated, would mark another instance of his engagement in foreign affairs despite no longer holding office, and could influence international perceptions of his continued political relevance.

The news of the ceasefire has been met with cautious optimism across the international community, as analysts warn that tensions between the two countries, particularly over disputed territories, remain unresolved.

The brief but intense skirmish has underscored how quickly long-standing rivalries in South Asia can flare up and the global risks associated with conflicts involving nuclear-armed states.

Observers are now calling for sustained diplomatic engagement and confidence-building measures to prevent future escalations between India and Pakistan.

This is a developing story, and more details are expected to emerge as both governments release additional statements and reports from the border regions become available.

The world watches closely as South Asia attempts to step back from the brink, hopeful that the ceasefire holds and that peace prevails in a region often fraught with volatility.

Stay tuned for further updates on this story as new information becomes available.

The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has given K12 million to the Tertiary Students Sports Association of Malawi (TESSAM) to support the national sports festival in Lilongwe this weekend.

The cheque handover was conducted on Wednesday at the bank’s head office in Blantyre, marking another milestone in NBM plc’s ongoing commitment to youth and tertiary education development.

The much-anticipated TESSAM Sports Festival will bring together students from over 15 universities, both public and private, and will be hosted across three major venues: African Bible College (ABC), Bambino School, and the Bingu National Stadium.

Speaking after presenting the cheque, NBM plc’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager, Akossa Hiwa, emphasised the Bank’s deep-rooted dedication to empowering the country’s youth.

“NBM plc believes in youth development, and it also believes in the development of tertiary institutions. This is part of a comprehensive strategy that we have towards youth engagement—ensuring we support them in all spheres during their studies,” said Hiwa.

Hiwa highlighted that this is not the first time the bank has supported TESSAM, having also contributed in 2024.

“In addition to this K12 million donation, we have other ongoing initiatives by the Bank aimed at supporting youth, including a university-based college basketball program that has significantly contributed to the development of basketball in Malawi. Furthermore, the Bank continues to run its ‘More Excellence Program,’ which includes scholarships, mentorships, the provision of academic equipment, and performance-based student awards.”

“This is all part of our integral plan to target and engage with our youth stakeholders, who are part of the ‘Bank of the Nation’. They graduate and grow with us, and go on to work with us in different spheres of development and the economy,” added Hiwa.

TESSAM Treasurer Tadala Namaona expressed immense gratitude on behalf of the association, describing the donation as both generous and unexpected.

“We have received this with much joy because we did not expect it. I know the National Bank does a lot for the country, but this was a surprise. They supported us last year, but this year’s support has more than doubled. We are very happy with this sponsorship.”

“With the coming in of the National Bank, we know it is going to be an even greater event than what we had last year. It means more resources, better organisation, and more exposure for our athletes,” said Namaona.

The TESSAM Sports Festival is expected to draw large crowds, competitive teams, and a renewed spirit of youth development.
