A battle of the White House: Harris vs Trump

By Twink Jones Gadama

As the 2024 presidential election draws near, the contrast between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump couldn’t be more striking, according to a recent analysis by Rick Dzida.

Harris is seen as even-tempered by 64% of voters, compared to 32% for Trump, highlighting her ability to remain composed under pressure.

Additionally, 53% of voters view Harris as a good role model, while 34% say the same about Trump.

Harris’ down-to-earth demeanor resonates with 51% of voters, versus 38% for Trump. She also has a slight edge over Trump (61% to 52%) in being seen as mentally sharp.

However, Harris faces criticism for being too personally critical of Trump, with 45% of voters expressing this concern.

On the other hand, Trump’s positives include standing up for what he believes in (69% of voters) and his prior experience as President, which his supporters view as a significant asset.

Nevertheless, Trump’s negatives are substantial.

A whopping 66% of voters say he’s too personally critical of Harris, and his campaign tone is viewed more negatively than Harris’. Moreover, Trump is seen as a divisive figure by many voters.

Moving beyond personal characteristics, Joe Biden’s presidency has achieved notable successes, including substantial job growth (15 million new jobs in three years) and record-low unemployment rates.

The economy has bounced back from the pandemic, with the United States now having the envy of the world in terms of economic recovery.

The Affordable Care Act has been protected, and Biden has enacted tax credits to reduce healthcare premiums for millions of working families.

In contrast, the Trump administration’s record is mixed.

While Trump took credit for driving down unemployment, the rate ultimately ended 1.7 percentage points higher than when he started.

The economy lost 2.7 million jobs during Trump’s presidency, and the real GDP declined 2.2% in 2020, the largest drop since 2009.

As Rick Dzida notes, “Voters have more confidence in Trump than Harris on economic, immigration, and foreign policies.”

However, “voters have more confidence in Harris than Trump to make good decisions about abortion policy and to effectively address issues around race.”

According to Pew Research Center, about eight-in-ten registered voters (81%) say the economy will be very important to their vote in the 2024 presidential election.

The economy has long been a top issue for voters, and other issues have become increasingly important over the past four years, including immigration and abortion.

As voters head to the polls, it’s essential to consider multiple perspectives on each candidate’s performance.

In the end, only voters have the power to elect leaders. Will Harris’ even-tempered nature and Biden’s policy successes sway voters, or will Trump’s experience and conviction win the day? The choice is theirs.

Rick Dzida’s analysis highlights the complexities of the 2024 presidential election, emphasizing the importance of voter perception and individual perspectives.

As the election draws near, one thing is clear: the outcome will have far-reaching consequences for the United States.

Wanderers Board Backtracks on Mwase Sacking Decision

By Twink Jones Gadama

In a stunning turn of events, Be Forward Wanderers Football Club has decided to retain head coach Meke Mwase until the end of the season, contrary to earlier reports suggesting his imminent sacking. This development follows an emergency meeting held tonight at 10 pm, where the board resolved to allow Mwase to see out his contract.

According to inside sources, Mwase’s contract stipulated that he must secure two trophies by the end of the season. However, with this target seemingly unattainable, the board has opted to assess his performance at the end of the season rather than terminating his contract prematurely.

Mwase

Mwase will be expected to submit a comprehensive performance report, which will inform the board’s decision on his future at the club. This reprieve provides the Malawian gaffer with an opportunity to redeem himself and potentially secure an extension.

The virtual meeting, attended by key stakeholders, also discussed the impending player reshuffle. Several Wanderers players are reportedly facing the axe, with the club seeking to revamp its squad ahead of next season.

Sources close to the club reveal that the board is keen on strengthening the team’s competitiveness, particularly in light of Mwase’s failure to meet the set targets. The player reshuffle is expected to be a key aspect of this strategy.

Wanderers’ faithful will be watching with bated breath as the season draws to a close. Mwase’s retention raises questions about the club’s ambition and willingness to settle for mediocrity.

In recent years, Wanderers has struggled to reclaim its former glory, with the team’s performance on the pitch failing to match the expectations of its dedicated fan base.

As Mwase navigates the remaining games of the season, he will be under immense pressure to deliver results and justify the board’s decision to retain him.

The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Mwase’s future at Wanderers. Will he rise to the challenge and secure the needed results, or will his tenure at the club come to an unceremonious end?

Meanwhile, fans have taken to social media to express their mixed reactions to the news. Some have welcomed the decision, citing stability and continuity, while others have expressed disappointment, arguing that Mwase has failed to inspire confidence.

As the debate rages on, one thing is certain – the spotlight is firmly fixed on Meke Mwase and Be Forward Wanderers Football Club.

Will Mwase prove his doubters wrong and lead Wanderers to success, or will the club’s search for glory continue?

Government to construct K2.7 billion Gwanda Chakwamba Mausoleum

The Government of Malawi through the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture, under the Monuments and Relics Act 1990, will construct a K2.7 billion Mausoleum for Gwanda Chakwamba in Nsanje district in recognition to his political contribution to the country.

In the notification of intention to award contract dated 4th November, 2024 the Ministry of Local Government says it has concluded the bid evaluation process and intends to award the contract to PMC Limited the successful bidder at the tune of K2,701,085,480.00.

“The Government of Malawi under the Monument and Relics Act 1990 is mandated to preserve and conserve Malawi’s heritage, one way of doing that, is through construction of Monuments,” reads the Notice in part.

The late Gwanda Chakuamba

Reacting to this good news, Political activist Bon Kalindo, has accused the MCP of being the most wasteful government Malawians have ever seen since the dawn of multiparty politics and democracy in 1994 claiming that it is failing to prioritize the challenges the country is sailing through.

Kalindo said if the MCP government was serious in constructing a Mausoleum, Freedom Fighter Chakufwa Thom Chihana would have his Mausoleum but to this day there’s nothing but focusing on Chakwamba because he was MCP.

He said it is sad that the Mausoleum has been allocated K2.7 billion when filling stations are dry with no fuel, hunger is in the midst of Malawians, prisons running without food, no medicines in health facilities, among many challenges.

The activist has claimed that K2.7 billion is a huge money to procure medicines for Kamuzu Central Hospital to last between 4 to 6 month, construct 4 modern secondary schools and paying school fees for the needy students.

He has questioned the MCP government to explain to Malawians where is the money which was allocated for Mohammad Sidik Mia Highway and why today, they are raising tollgate charges for the money to be constructing roads.

“President Chakwera and Chimwendo Banda, are you really serious that you have allocated K2.7 billion for Gwanda Chakwamba Mausoleum, are you men of God trusted by your congregations? Questioned Kalindo.

He has appealed to patriotic Malawians to pray to God the Almighty very hard so that President Chakwera and his MCP don’t bouncing back into government in 2025 saying enough is enough with the MCP for taking Malawians as useless citizens.

Renowned social media influencer Joshua Chisa Mbele has described United Transformation Movement (UTM) presidential aspirant Newton Kambala as a politician who is very sincere in his political dealings, calm, and humble.

In a Facebook post, Mbele says Kambala goes out hunting and shares with everyone whatever he has caught.

“To this day, people don’t know that Newton was the Founding Member of UTM. He let SKC run with it. Few Malawians can do that.

Kambala and Mbele

“He has quietly submitted his nomination papers for the position of UTM Presidency. Only one man wins in any election. I wish him all the very best. I sincerely admire his statesmanship,” reads Mbele’s post.

Kambala submitted his nomination papers for UTM presidency on Monday, November 4, 2024, ready to face Dalitso Kabambe, Mathews Mtumbuka, Patricia Kaliati, and others in the party’s presidential battle on November 17, 2024.
