Apart from the three top guns, 6TH Mw is also geared with performances set to ignite the stage and keep the audience entertained from start to finish.

The entertainment roster is further amplified by some of the country’s top DJs: Magic, Classic, Grant, and Stephen — all ready to deliver high-energy sets and keep the party going all night long.

The event will involve students from Mzuzu University, the University of Livingstonia (all campuses), Exploits University, and St. Johns of God.

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa emphasized the Bank’s commitment to youth-centred events.

“At NBM plc, we believe the future of our country lies in the potential of its youth. That’s why we are proud to sponsor this year’s Social Weekend at Mzuzu University. Our investment goes beyond financial support — it’s about creating platforms that inspire, entertain, and connect students while recognizing their creativity and energy,” said Hiwa.

She added: “Events like this are not just moments of fun; they are opportunities for students to network, collaborate, and express themselves through music, arts, and culture. We want to be part of that journey — to stand with the youth, to uplift their passions, and to support the vibrant campus life that shapes tomorrow’s leaders. We are excited to see the talent on display this weekend and are confident it will be a memorable experience for everyone involved.”

Entertainment Director at Mzuni, Shadreck Mlenga, commended NBM plc for bringing this opportunity to life.

“The sponsorship from the NBM plc has brought a positive impact on the university since it will be a time where the colleges will be united and interact, and also refresh their minds from the pressure of academics at large. The sponsorship also means a positive perspective towards the Bank,” said Mlenga.

NBM plc has sponsored two inter-college social weekends in Blantyre and Lilongwe in the past weeks.

Human rights and Governance advocates have faulted Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) over the way they handled their President Arthur Peter Mutharika foreign trip.

Undule Mwakasungula says Mutharika is not an ordinary person but the former Head of State.

Mwakasungula said for the sake of transparency and accountability DPP leadership should  have come out clear on where the former President was even before people started questioning about it.

Mutharika back in Malawi

“While DPP has been  demanding  transparency from President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and his government, the party itself has notably been  secretive about former President Peter Mutharika’s whereabouts,”
he quaried.

Another  economic and political commentator Dr Ben Dzolowere said Mutharika uses Tax payers money therefore there is need for transparency all times.

“As a key presidential candidate, Malawians are anxious to know his status, fueling numerous rumors. It is  ironic that DPP has been expecting transparency from government and otherw while lacking openness on this critical matter of the real  whereabouts of the former President,” said Dr Dzolowere.

Dzolowere said Malawians have the right to know whereabouts of Mutharika and his health.

“And Peter Mutharika being a DPP  Presidential candidate in September election makes it even more interests to Malawian to know his status all the time,” he opined.
Mutharika has since returned home fueling speculations of his ill health.

Middle East on edge: Israel and Iran exchange strikes

By Rahim Abdul

The conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate, with both countries exchanging strikes and warnings.

A hospital in Beersheba, Israel, was directly hit after Iran fired a wave of missiles, while Israel warned people to evacuate areas near the Arak heavy water reactor in Iran, citing plans to target military infrastructure.

The strikes come as US President Donald Trump has approved plans to attack Iran, but has not made a final decision on whether to strike the country.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned Trump of “irreparable harm” if the US intervenes in the conflict. Sirens sounded in Israel overnight, prompting people to take cover, but they have since been allowed to leave their shelters.

The conflict could lead to a wider regional war, with potential involvement from other countries and proxy groups.

The strikes have already caused significant damage to infrastructure and posed a threat to civilians.

The international community is closely watching the situation, with calls for restraint and diplomacy to prevent further escalation.

The Data Protection Authority (DPA) has launched its first-ever Data Protection Awareness Workshop for Government Institutions, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen data privacy and cybersecurity.

The workshop comes as Malawi begins implementing the Data Protection Act of 2024, which mandates responsible handling of personal data by public and private institutions.

The new law designates MACRA as the Data Protection Authority, tasking it with ensuring compliance and regulating how personal data is collected, processed, and shared.

MACRA Board Director Isaac Songea emphasized the importance of the law in protecting citizens’ rights, noting that “personal data is one of the most valuable assets in the digital age.”

The workshop aims to build capacity and awareness among government institutions, highlighting the need for transparency, fairness, and accountability in data handling.

Mark Chonde from the Reserve Bank of Malawi stressed that institutions must not take data collection lightly, ensuring that data is stored well and used appropriately.

The DPA has urged all invited institutions to attend and collaborate in safeguarding Malawians’ personal data, reaffirming its commitment to building a digitally secure and rights-based data protection culture.

The initiative demonstrates Malawi’s commitment to protecting its citizens’ personal data and promoting a culture of data protection.

With the Data Protection Act of 2024 in place, Malawi is poised to join the ranks of countries with robust data protection frameworks, providing a safer and more secure digital environment for its citizens.
