Winners in the just ended “Dolo Amavotera Chakwera Music Challenge” have lauded Malawi Congress Party (MCP) running mate in the September 16 elections Vitumbiko Mumba, for recognising upcoming talents in the just ended music competition.
Winners of the competition were announced on Saturday 2nd August ,2023 at a Grand Finale which was attended by President Lazarus Chakwera at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) Malawi Square in Lilongwe.
Popular musicians, Zeze Kingstone, Malinga Mafia, Dan Lu, Amidu Ellan and Zambian singer B1 also performed at the event.

Speaking after the event, winner in the Hip-hop category Robinson James known in the music circles as R Jai Reiny, thanked Mumba for giving musicians a chance to showcase their skills, saying such initiatives would help to grow the music industry in the country.
He said, “A lot of hidden talents have been unearthed during this competition as it gave us a chance to showcase our skills. Winning the competition has given me courage to push my music career further so that I can become a big brand.”
Winner in the Local category Kiddy Tseka concurred with Robinson saying the competition has given him confidence to advance his music career.
“This has been a great experience for us as artists and it has boosted my confidence. I would like to thank honourable Mumba for the exposure. Malawians should expect more music projects from me,” he said.
A total of 220 songs were submitted by various artists across the country and fourteen were shortlisted by a team of judges to compete in the top five categories.
Five winners in the categories of Hip-hop, Reggae, Local (Malawian style songs, traditional songs), Amapiano and Other categories went home with K5 million each.
In the Reggae category, Aizie Phenix won the award with his song ‘Dolo Kwambiri Amavotera Chakwera’ as Emmanuel Harry Group won in the Amapiano category with their song titled ‘Nje’.
In the Local category the award went to Kidy Tseka as Robinson James won the Hip-hop category with his song ‘Dolo Kwambiri’.
The duo of Foster Kaphala and Francis Kalambule won in the Other category with their song ‘Dolo Kwambiri’ beating Favour Jeketa and Rasco Taleniz.
