President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has urged voters in Chitipa District to cast their votes for him and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to ensure that development continues both in Chitipa and across Malawi.
Speaking at Chitipa Boma during a whistle-stop tour ahead of the September 16 General Election, President Chakwera reflected on the challenges faced during his first term, noting that despite numerous natural disasters, the government remained committed to national development.

He emphasized that his administration has implemented many developmental projects throughout the country, utilizing modern technology to build lasting infrastructure.
Among the projects highlighted were durable roads, railway systems, schools, and hospitals, including the Nthalire Community Hospital, which was officially inaugurated during the visit.
MCP Secretary General and Minister of Local Government and National Unity, Richard Chimwendo Banda, praised President Chakwera for spending a night in Chitipa, highlighting that the President’s stay boosted local business, with accommodation facilities fully booked and an increase in money circulation within the district.
Regarding sports infrastructure, Chimwendo Banda revealed that President Chakwera had directed that the terraces at Chitipa Stadium be completed, which will enable Chitipa United Football Club to host home games.
Senior Chief Mwabulambya expressed gratitude to the President, applauding him for his humility in becoming the first sitting President to spend a night in Chitipa.
President Chakwera’s visit underscored his commitment to inclusive development and his efforts to strengthen ties with local communities ahead of the general elections.
