President Lazarus Chakwera has been hailed by Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara as one of Malawi’s most caring leaders.
Speaking at the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) 2025 campaign launch for the north, Hara praised Chakwera for prioritizing the immediate needs of Malawians during disasters like COVID-19, Cyclone Freddy, and those resulting from climate change.
“While he had all the right to invest in physical developments, Chakwera in his nature as a father, he also cared about other immediate needs of Malawians by providing immediate relief facilities during disasters,” Hara said.

She added that it would have been uncaring of him to ignore Malawians who became destitute due to these challenges, hence priorities had to shift.
Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda also commended President Chakwera for including people from the northern region in his cabinet, saying this shows that he is President of all the people.
This move has been seen as a gesture of inclusivity and a demonstration of Chakwera’s commitment to representing all Malawians.
Chakwera’s leadership has been marked by both ambitious reforms and significant challenges.
While critics argue that his administration has often failed to live up to its promises, supporters praise his decency, respect for the rule of law, and long-term vision for the country.
