President Mutharika Mourns MBC Director General Brian Banda

President Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady have expressed deep sorrow following the sudden death of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda.

Banda, who served as Director General of MBC until his untimely death, has been described by the President as a patriot, distinguished media personality and dedicated public servant.

In a message of condolence, President Mutharika said he and the First Lady were deeply saddened to learn of Banda’s sudden passing.



The President said Banda made a significant contribution to Malawi’s media industry through his work and public service.

According to Mutharika, Banda was a media icon whose voice and vision resonated in homes across Malawi for decades.

He described the late MBC Director General as a dedicated public servant who served the country with commitment.

“Mr Banda was a patriot, a distinguished media icon and a dedicated public servant,” the President said in his condolence message.

Mutharika said Banda’s contribution to the media fraternity would remain an important part of Malawi’s public broadcasting history.

The President extended his condolences to Banda’s family, friends and colleagues following the sudden loss.

He also conveyed his sympathy to the entire media fraternity, describing the period as an incredibly difficult time for those who knew and worked with Banda.

Banda’s death has come as a major loss to the media industry, where he was recognised for his years of service and contribution to broadcasting in Malawi.

President Mutharika concluded his message by praying for Banda’s soul to rest in eternal peace and asking for comfort for those mourning his death.
