Secretary of the Ulama Council of Malawi, Sheikh Muslim Abbas Vinjenje, has defended Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman over his remarks condemning corruption, saying his position is consistent with Islamic teachings.
Vinjenje told 247 Malawi News that Islam strongly condemns corruption and bribery, stressing that those involved in such practices should be held accountable.

Vinjenje: I support Suleman’s remarks against corruption
He expressed concern over the continued prevalence of corruption in Malawi, saying it undermines good governance and public trust.
The Sheikh also criticised leaders who appear to protect individuals involved in corruption, describing such conduct as contrary to the promises they made to Malawians during election campaigns.
He urged public officials to serve with integrity, fulfil their responsibilities faithfully and ensure that public offices benefit the people they represent.
Vinjenje further stressed that leaders must respect the trust Malawians placed in them by electing them to public office.
