By McLloyd Kudzingo

TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers and second placed Kamuzu Barracks missed an opportunity to collect maximum points as they were held to a 2-2 and a goalless draws against Mighty Tigers and Baka City respectively.

Silver Strikers gave away their lead twice to draw 2-2 against Mighty Tigers in an entertaining match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The central bankers opened the scoring early, with Duncan Nyoni connecting home a corner from Mark Fodya to give the visitors the 1-0 lead in the 6th minute.

Tigers would look to respond quickly, as they had a number of opportunities to net the equalizer but saw their efforts beautifully defended by the visitors.

Messiah Kachingwe scored Tigers’ equaliser in the 56th minute after receiving a pass from Chimwemwe Ibrahim but Silver restored their lead in the 79th minute through Nickson Mwase who connected with a header a corner kick well delivered by Uchizi Vunga.

Just when everybody thought it was going to be another victory for the capital city giants, Chimwemwe Ibrahim had other thoughts.

Ibrahim who provided an assist in Tigers’ first goal, leveled the scores from a free-kick just some seconds before the end of the match to deny Silver an opportunity to go 9 points clear at the top of the log table .

Despite the result, Silver remain top on the log table with 26 points and Tigers are 10th with 12 points after playing 10 games.

Silver’s next match is against Civil Service United in a capital city derby to be played at Civo Stadium on Sunday.

In Karonga, the match between rookies Baka City and Kamuzu Barracks (KB) ended goalless at Karonga Stadium.

KB are now second on the log table with 19 points, seven points behind league leaders, Silver Strikers while Baka remain bottom with four points after playing 10 games.
