Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah has thrown her weight behind efforts to improve palliative healthcare in Malawi by presiding over the launch of the 2026 Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust Fundraising Golf Tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club.
The charity initiative is expected to generate K80 million, which will be used to procure essential medicines and medical equipment for patients living with chronic and life-limiting illnesses.
The fundraising campaign reflects the Trust’s determination to strengthen access to palliative care by ensuring that patients receive the treatment and support they need to manage serious medical conditions with dignity.
The official launch attracted golfers from various sectors, illustrating broad-based support for a cause that seeks to improve the lives of vulnerable Malawians through better healthcare services.
Organisers said the tournament provides an opportunity for individuals, companies and institutions to contribute towards addressing resource gaps that continue to affect the delivery of palliative care.
They expressed confidence that the campaign will not only raise the targeted funds but also increase public understanding of the importance of specialised care for patients with long-term illnesses.
Palliative care plays a crucial role in relieving pain, controlling symptoms and providing emotional, psychological and social support to patients and their families throughout the course of serious illness.
The Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust has continued to complement government healthcare programmes by delivering specialised services that improve the quality of life of people requiring long-term medical care.
Through the 2026 fundraising golf tournament, the Trust hopes to expand its reach, strengthen healthcare support systems and ensure that more Malawians have access to the medicines and equipment necessary for quality palliative care.
