Video clip squeezes Dr. Victoria Bobe’s alleged killers as court prepares scene visit

By Vincent Gunde

The High Court in Blantyre is continuing to hear witness testimony in the murder trial of Dr. Victoria Bobe.

Dr. Bobe was shot dead at her residence in Chigumula Township, Blantyre.

On Wednesday, Police Detective Assistant Superintendent Christopher Pangeti played a video clip in court.

The clip showed how the seven suspects spoke after their arrest.

In the video, all seven suspects recounted details of the murder of Dr. Victoria Bobe.

They confessed that the crime was indeed committed by them.

This contradicted what happened on Tuesday when the same suspects appeared before the court.

On Tuesday, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

The seven suspects are Charles Chikopa, Maxwell Elia, Rafic Abdul Hassan, Santos Chamaba, Peter Chimenya, Issa Ali, and Peter Mphepo.

Pangeti told the court that the video clip alone is not enough evidence.

He asked the court to visit the crime scene to relate what is in the video to what was found on 17th November, 2025.

High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa, who is presiding over the case, has adjourned proceedings.

The court will reconvene on Thursday afternoon for a visit to the scene of the crime at Chigumula Township.

Dr. Bobe’s murder initially attracted public criticism and speculation.

Some members of the public suspected that police had paraded convicts from Chichiri Prison to pose as the killers.

With no updates for a long time, many concluded that the real suspects had not been found.

The appearance of the seven suspects in court has challenged those earlier conclusions.

On Tuesday, two witnesses testified before the court.

The first was Yamikani Bobe, the husband of the late Dr. Victoria Bobe.

The second was Mr. Jimmy Kanyerere, a neighbor to Dr. Bobe’s house.

Both witnesses were cross-examined by Defense Lawyer Goba Chipeta.

According to court records, on 17th November, 2025, Dr. Victoria Bobe was shot dead at close range.

Armed criminals broke into her home and went away with a laptop and other equipment.
