Former Nyasa Big Bullets FC midfielder Chimwemwe Idana has joined Tanzanian side, Mbeya City Council FC on a free transfer after parting ways with the people’s team in January.
According to information from the club, the player has signed a one and a half year long contract.
Former Malawi Football National Team, the Flames notable player Esau Kamwendo has congratulated Idana for his new opportunity and urged him to continue working hard.

Idana was the 2021 TNM Super League player of the season while playing for Bullets.
He had no team after leaving Bullets at the end of his contract in January this year.
The player tried his luck at South African club Sekhukune United but the deal did not materialise as the club’s foreign quota was full.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera says his administration is set to connect free electricity to 32,325 households country-wide in the upcoming financial year under Ndawala Initiative through the Rural Electrification Fund (REF).
In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the opening of the 1st meeting of the 50th Session of Parliament and the 2023/2024 budget meeting in Lilongwe on Friday, 17 February 2023, Chakwera announced that government is also set to connect 30,325 low – income households to the nation grid.
Said the president, “We are also increasing access to electricity through grid connection of 180,000 ESCOM customers under the World Bank-funded Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP) to be completed next year as well as the construction of 16 mini-grids under MEAP, MAREP, the UNDP supported Access to Clean and Renewable Energy (ACRE) project, which will connect 200,000 off-grid customers by next year as well.”
Chakwera said his top priority is the provision of reliable electricity for Malawians. He explained that though his efforts suffered a major setback this past year when power supply was destroyed by tropical storms, his administration is working to rectify the situation.
He added that although the deadline to restore the Kapichira Power Plant by the end of the last quarter of 2022 was missed due to concerns for the environment, engineers are on target to restore partial generation of power from the plant by the end of this quarter.
The president also expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far on the Mozambique – Malawi electricity interconnector project.
“Meanwhile, the Mozambique – Malawi Interconnector Project which will allow us to import and export power to the Southern African Power Pool is now finally underway, with construction having begun in November 2022. Even more encouraging is the fact that in June 2022, we commissioned the 20 Megawatts Golomoti Power Station with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS),” explained Chakwera.
“We also secured a 25-million-dollar financing agreement to enable Golomoti Solar to capitalize this investment in solar power generation, as well as similar agreements with Elsewedy and AMEA Power. Similarly, the construction of the 21 Megawatts Serengeti Solar Power Station in Nkhotakota is near completion and will be commissioned in the coming weeks.”

The Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that President Lazarus Chakwera will not attend the 36th session of the African Union Summit meeting scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa,the Federal Republican of Ethiopia from February 18 to February 19,2023.
According to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Malawi leader will not attend the Africa’s top meeting due to other equally important national commitments assigned to him during the same period, including Cabinet’s ongoing preparations for the Budget Meeting of Parliament.
The statement says, therefore, Chakwera has designated Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo to represent him at the Summit Meeting.
” His Excellency the President, will, however, attend certain AU sessions virtually, ” reads the statement in part.
The 36th Ordinary Session Assembly is the AU’s supreme policy and decision-making organ.
It comprises all Member State Heads of State and Government.
The Assembly determines the AU’s policies, establishes its priorities, adopts its annual programme and monitors the implementation of its policies and decisions.
The Summit will be held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
It is themed “The Year of AfCFTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation.”
In its quest to support tailoring and fashion design skills among the youths in the country,Old Mutual Malawi has today donated K3 million to Tingathe Malawi Organization.
Among other things, the amount will support 80 young people taking tailoring and fashion design skills at the organization.
Speaking with the members of the press, Old Mutual Group Chief Finance Officer, Vera Zulu, said the donation has been made because the company believes the youth are critical to the nation’s development.
” You may wish to know that our partnership with Tingathe started in 2017, and today we are glad that over this period, we have together managed to graduate three cohorts of around 600 young people form peri-urban communities of Mtandire, Mtsiriza, Njewa, Senti, Kauma, Ngona and area 49 in Lilongwe,” she said.
In his part, Tingathe Malawi member Chikondi Kaponda said the donation has come handy when there is need and that the support will indeed be used for appropriate tasks.
Said Kaponda ” We are very excited with the donation from the old mutual and we believe this will help us a lot. We thank Old Mutual for the gesture.”
The overall goal of the Tingathe program is to help Malawi towards achievement of the UNAIDS 95-95-95 benchmarks, which call for 95% of HIV-infected individuals to know their status, 95% of patients who know their status to be started and adherent on ART, and 95% of patients on ART to be virally suppressed by 2030.
