The Umodzi Party is urging the police to arrest the organizers of the recent demonstrations in Mzuzu that turned violent.
The demonstrations, led by a group called “Concerned Citizens,” were against the use of Election Management Devices in the upcoming polls.

According to Thomas Kaumba, President of the Umodzi Party, the organizers should be held accountable for failing to maintain peace during the demonstrations.
Seventeen people have already been arrested for vandalism during the protests.
Northern region police spokesperson Maurice Chapola said the demonstrations started peacefully but turned violent after some protesters vandalized property and set ablaze tires along the road.
Chapola warned organizers of demonstrations to take charge and ensure that participants return home peacefully to avoid recurrence of violence.
The party’s stance is that organizers should be held responsible for ensuring that protests remain peaceful.
The police have been urged to take action against the organizers of the violent demonstrations. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of citizens in Mzuzu.
