Malawi’s Queens have secured another chance to compete on the global netball stage after their progress to the semi-finals of the Africa Netball Cup earning the country an invitation to the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.
World Netball confirmed the qualification after receiving a letter from the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) early Thursday seeking clarification on the qualification arrangements.
According to World Netball, Malawi and Namibia have qualified for invitations to the 2027 Netball World Cup after reaching the last four of the continental competition.
The development sees Malawi join South Africa and Uganda, who already secured qualification based on their World Netball rankings as of December 1, 2025.
The Queens’ progression to the semi-finals therefore guarantees Malawi another appearance at the global tournament, where the country will compete against teams from different regions for the world title.
Malawi is scheduled to face South Africa in one of the Africa Netball Cup semi-finals, setting up a contest between two of Africa’s established netball teams.
The other semi-final is scheduled to feature Uganda against Namibia, with the four teams battling for places in the final of the continental tournament.
The qualification arrangements are part of World Netball’s NWC2027 Africa qualification process, which determines the African teams that will receive invitations to the global tournament.
For Malawi, the qualification provides the Queens with another opportunity to test themselves against the world’s leading netball nations and build on the country’s longstanding presence in international netball.
The 2027 Netball World Cup will be hosted in Sydney, Australia, bringing together qualified teams from across the world.
Meanwhile, the remaining fixture listed on the Africa Netball Cup schedule is the ninth- and 10th-place play-off between Tanzania and Nigeria.
Malawi’s qualification adds another chapter to the Queens’ international campaign, with the team now set to represent the country at the 2027 Netball World Cup.
