Miss Malawi organizers have selected 21-year-old Ireen Navicha to represent Malawi at this year’s Miss World pageant, saying her age and community work make her the strongest candidate for the international competition.
A senior Miss Malawi official, Godfrey Kambewa, said the decision followed careful consideration of how Miss World has crowned winners in recent years.
Kambewa explained that many recent Miss World winners have been between the ages of 18 and 25, making Navicha, who is 21, a strong contender.
He said the organizers believe her age places her in a favorable position to compete with contestants from across the globe.
According to Kambewa, Navicha has also distinguished herself through projects that support girls returning to school after dropping out.
He noted that her advocacy aligns with the “Beauty With a Purpose” initiative, one of the key judging pillars at the Miss World competition.
Kambewa expressed confidence that Navicha’s community work could increase her chances of performing well and potentially bringing the crown to Malawi.
Miss World is open to contestants aged between 17 and 27, allowing young women from different countries to showcase their beauty, intelligence and social impact.
This year’s Miss World pageant is scheduled in to take place in Vietnam from August to September, where contestants will compete in various challenges before the winner is crowned.
Malawi will now look to Navicha to fly the national flag high and build on the country’s presence at one of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageants.
