William Mpinganjira, the Chief Executive Officer of FDH Bank, has expressed profound admiration for the Nchalo Lions Club, recognizing the organization’s unwavering commitment to uplifting underprivileged communities in the Shire Valley. The CEO delivered these remarks during a vibrant dinner and dance gala hosted by the club in Blantyre, an event specifically designed to mobilize K50 million. These funds are earmarked for a series of targeted charitable interventions aimed at alleviating hardship in the poverty-stricken districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje.
Mpinganjira noted that these two districts consistently rank among the most economically disadvantaged regions in the country. He emphasized that the Lions Club’s strategic focus on implementing tangible, high-impact projects is precisely what is needed to catalyze sustainable change and build resilience among the vulnerable populations residing there, adding that corporate entities have a duty to back such grassroots initiatives.
Adding to the momentum of the evening, James Chuma, President of the Nchalo Lions Club, took the opportunity to extend his deepest gratitude to the corporate sector and individual donors. He acknowledged that without their generous sponsorship and solidarity, realizing their ambitious humanitarian agenda would remain a daunting challenge. The high-profile nature of the event was underscored by the presence of Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga, who joined other dignitaries in showing solidarity for the noble cause.
Prior to the main fundraising dinner, the club successfully hosted a charity golf tournament which attracted a robust field of 52 enthusiastic golfers. The participants teed off in a spirit of friendly competition, collectively contributing to the overarching goal of driving development and fostering hope in the underserved regions of the Lower Shire.
