Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has warned the general public against sharing other people’s examination results on social media without their consent, saying such actions attract legal consequences under the Data Protection Act, 2024.
MACRA Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma says examination results constitute personal data because they identify individuals and form part of their private academic records.
Nkoloma says posting screenshots, photographs, videos or other content showing another person’s examination results without a lawful basis may amount to a violation of the law.
According to MACRA, individuals who unlawfully publish such information could face civil or criminal liability, depending on the circumstances surrounding the disclosure.
The authority has therefore reminded the public that Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) results are legally protected and should not be disclosed or published without the explicit consent of the person concerned.
MACRA says it will investigate reported violations and take appropriate enforcement action against those found to have breached the law.
The authority has also encouraged people whose personal data has been unlawfully disclosed to report the matter to MACRA for redress.
