Rights activist who is also Executive Director of the Malawi Watch Billy Banda, has pleaded with President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, being a central person and pillar in the DPP to urgently intervene in clearing the mess that have rocked the party.
Banda said what is happening in the DPP is not sending a good picture that people in the party loves the country but they are for self enrichment at the expense of the poor Malawians.
He said Speaker of the National Assembly Rt. Hon. Sameer Suleman has not breached any part of the Constitution saying he hasn’t committed a crime warranting to impeachment as some other people are suggesting.
Speaking through an audio clip in his personal capacity as a citizen of the country, Banda said it is sad that some other people have filed a court injunction refraining Speaker from investigating various institutions which are matters of concern to Malawians.
Banda has described the matter which has gone to court as a petty case which cannot be debated in court claiming that the Speaker’s office cannot be debated.
He said the country has so many issues that demands urgent attention and not the Speaker’s office to be dragged to court in just one year of DPP rule after the 16th September, 2025 elections.
The Activist said while Malawians are celebrating the cost of living becoming manageable through a 10 percent reduction of fuel prices, others are bringing there own issues to satisfy their needs, saying this is totally unacceptable.
“I didn’t go anywhere Your Excellency, Malawi has huge problems and all these are on your table, come out and clear the mess,” said Banda.
He has appealed to President Professor Mutharika to call for all those who wants to bring in confusions in the DPP to come together for a unity of purpose observing that Sameer Suleman has raised constructive issues.
On the arrest of Dr. Collins Magalasi, Banda has reminded Professor Mutharika that Magalasi was one such person who played a critical role for change of government in Malawi saying today, “Things have fallen apart” – other names are being mentioned in connection to his case currently in court.
On Blantyre Water Board (BWB) Banda said water is life, advising Mutharika to fire all behind employing politics at the water utility body that has led to the suspension of Hon. Yeremia Chihana as its Chief Executive Officer.
Banda has urged all Malawians to work together in building the country praying to God to be with the country by not allowing the devil to destroy it.
He has finally sent a message to Speaker of Parliament Sameer Gafar Suleman that God will protect him, he has committed no offence to the country, and all Malawians are behind him.
