Former President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, who also serves as leader of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), on Sunday is attending the Annual General Conference of the CCAP Livingstonia Synod held at Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu.
The former head of state arrived at the venue around 9:00 a.m. alongside his wife, Madame Monica Chakwera. Upon their arrival, the couple was received by senior church officials and various dignitaries who had gathered for the annual religious gathering.

Though no longer in State House, Dr. Chakwera remains a significant figure on the national stage, and his presence at the church function underscores his continued engagement with faith-based institutions. The Livingstonia Synod conference is one of the major events on the CCAP calendar, drawing thousands of believers from across the country.
The former President has previously commended the CCAP Livingstonia Synod for its role in complementing development efforts across various sectors of the economy. He has also hailed the church for its significant contributions to the social and economic transformation of Malawi.
The conference at Kamuzu Academy comes at a time when the Synod has been actively engaging with national leaders on issues of governance and development. Dr. Chakwera’s attendance is seen as a demonstration of his respect for the church’s institutional role in shaping the country’s moral and social fabric.
The event proceeded peacefully, with church members and invited guests participating in worship and deliberations. The former President and the First Lady were expected to stay for the main proceedings of the conference.
