President Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to working closely with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to advance inclusive and sustainable development.
Writing on his official Facebook page, the President highlighted the bank’s pivotal role in supporting Malawi’s economic transformation.
He noted that Afreximbank continues to be a key partner in strengthening the country’s development foundation.

During the ongoing Annual Meetings of the bank, President Chakwera participated in a high-level session featuring both current and former African and Caribbean leaders.
The session focused on the evolving role of African multilateral financial institutions in driving development across the continent.
President Chakwera emphasized the importance of these institutions in empowering nations to define their own growth paths.
He added that the dialogue also explored how African and Caribbean countries can navigate a fractured global order.
In his view, this global system is increasingly skewed in favor of powerful nations, often sidelining the interests of developing economies.
Against this backdrop, Chakwera stressed the need for bold and transformative policy decisions.
He called for stronger cooperation between countries in the Global South, particularly in the areas of trade and investment.
Such cooperation, he argued, would help to unlock the vast potential of these regions.
The President underscored the power of a unified voice in global negotiations and strategic decision-making.
He further noted that access to strategic financing is vital in achieving developmental goals.
According to Chakwera, these two elements—unity and smart financing—can help transform communities through profitable trade.
They also offer opportunities to create decent jobs and generate sustainable wealth.
His remarks align with broader calls for economic independence and South-South collaboration in shaping a fairer global financial architecture.
As the Afreximbank Annual Meetings continue, President Chakwera’s message sets a hopeful and ambitious tone for regional integration and economic resilience.
The hashtags accompanying his message—#AfreximBank2025 and #BuildingtheFuture—reinforce his forward-looking vision for Malawi and the continent at large.
